Height and Weight Ram + 8299BS

went on my first trip loaded with all of our "stuff" for a three day outing at the lake. I took advantage of the opportunity to get some data for following trips. i got my son to climb the ladder and we measured the distance from the ground to the top of the highest point ( A/C)to see what my clearance would be. we measured 13 feet 6 inches. wow! i knew it was tall but that is high. so i guess 14 ft will be my number. low limbs in camp grounds will be a problem i think. When i first bought my 2015 Ram 2500 HD CC SB 6.4L i weighed it at the local CAT scale and it weighed steering axle 3840#, drive axle 2940#, GVW + 2 people and 1/2 tank of fuel =6780#. now loaded with a tool box installed in the bed full of assorted camping tools and a B&W Patriot hitch, one Besinge dog, DW & yours truly with a full fuel tank and our first time out Rockwood 8299BS with a full frig and closets i rolled up on the CAT scales and the steering axle wt 3840#. hard to believe but the same wt as before and 1660# to the good. the drive axles weighed 5480# so they gained 2540# but i am still 1020# to the good there. the trailer axles weighed 8660# with 1/3 fresh water tank capacity+ stuff so with a max tow weight of 12940# i am still 1740 to the good here. the GCVW of the truck and trailer and stuff is 17980#.sure add up fast. the over all length is just over 49 ft. i got 8.6 MPG on this trip @ 60 mph or less.

Considering your weight, that's pretty respectable mileage for a big gas engine. Yer liking the 6.4?

Kandl i was pleased with the mileage also it is about the same as we got on our 1995 34 ft ford 460 cu in class A MH. the torque range is about right on for 60 mph with 373 gears. what surprised me is that the weight on the steering axle did not change and i have the hitch in its most forward position. with the Reese sidewinder i still have good cab tight turn clearance.

We average 10 to 11 MPG with 13.5K lbs combined weight. 12 on rare occasions and with a tailwind. We're right up against the 1500's GVWR.
