How do I remove pex fittings

Hopefully my picture will show up. Removed the water filter. Now need to connect with a shark bite fitting but will need to remove the white connectors first. How do I do this?

if you have a few extra inches of pipe to spare just cut it.

For myself, the easiest thing to do is just cut the tubing below the nipple of the fitting (the part inside the tubing) to get to the part of the tubing that hasn't been deformed by crimping. Then just add in the necessary length of additional tubing to replace where the filter was.

I think i should have some room to spare. I assume I need to grab a pex pipe cutting tool?

any heavy duty tubing cutter will cut the 1/2 inch stuff.

I just used a box cutter on mine, but a tubing cutter would leave a nicer edge.

Thanks everyone. I cut the pex pipes and attached with a shark bite. Real test is when I turn on the water

I agree. Almost felt like something was wrong how easy it was to put together. Ran water through the system and so far so good. Finally, got that water filter removed. On my mind the past few months.

Just sanitized the fresh water tank so that's done (don't usually use it). nice to have a free day to get things done

Shark bite fitting are great but pricey. If you are going to use 4-6 shark bite fittings in the next few years and have pex to work on invest in the pex crimp tool.

If you ever need to remove the PEX from a fitting and don't have extra length to spare, you can remove the copper clamp (like it looks was already done), and gently heat the tubing with a heat gun till it can be slipped off. I've done it several times and it works great.

When I removed my filter, I unscrewed one side, letting the fitting spin inside the PEX. Then rotated the filter housing to unscrew from the other side. Did the reverse to install the coupler.

Everyone says this is terrible and the spinning fitting will leak, but it's been just fine for the last 3 years. Your mileage may vary.

If you desire to make nice even cuts that will reduce the chance for future leaks. buy a PVC cutting tool. If you desire to utilize PEX fittings, buy a PEX crimping tool (available at ACE and Lowe's) which will tighten a band of metal around the pipe / fitting connection just like from it was done at the factory!. If you want ease of install, go with SHARKBITE fittings. With SHARKBITE type fittings, make sure that you also buy the disconnect device just in case you do not get a snug fit on the first attempt.

I have found easiest way to get the crimped bands off is with a rotary tool and little cutting wheel. Only takes a few seconds.

My plumber told me to always put a little lube (like dish soap) so you do not harm the tubing or anything else when pushing them together

There are MANY reports of them leaking inside the trailer and causing a BIG mess!

I found the solution to be starting further back before starting to tighten. Then align the marker. Start far enough back so that the marker will align when tightened.

My filter housing leaks so, yea filter leaks are a concern. Since my filter is “conveniently” behind a panel, you don’t know it’s merrily leaking along. Luckily I was setting at a campground just doing a spring shakedown. For what it’s worth the pressure gauge reported 45 psi and connected to city water. The leaking started after firing up the water heater. Coincidence? Not sure. Didn’t think to check pressure when tank was hot. I’m ordering new o-rings and will reinstall the filter housing. I also bought some food grade silicone grease to lube the new o-rings. I suspect a nicked o-ring. I hope not much water is over the top of the filter housing as the filter is mounted in such a way that can’t put a bucket below and hardfit to use towels with bonus electric connections below.
