how much room under bed in Rockwood 2883ws

I just purchased a 2021 Rockwood ultra lite 2883ws but will have to wait till probably the first of Nov to take possession. In the interim I'm going to build a
divided shoe box that will fit under the bed where it overhangs the frame support box. If anyone has the distance measurement from the end of the support box to the end of the mattress I would be very appreciative.

I also have a 2883ws on order. The bedroom layout is the same as pretty much all ws model 5ers so Id assume the dimensions are the same. Its tight to walk between the bed and the wallI probably wont use that as a regular passageway. Pretty sure there is enough room for a 12-14 box under the bed, along the floor.

Why did you pick the 2883? I was between this model and the 303RLS GD

Reason for purchasing the 2883ws

Thanks for the reply, I ended up constructing a box 48"L x 9" H x 18" D with removable plexiglass dividers, it can potentially hold 21 pair of shoes. I had the measurements for the Length and Height but guessed at the depth so hope there is at least 18". Only found a few videos on you-tube that showed the bed being lifted up to see the storage area below.

I currently own a 2018 rockwood mini lite model 2504s. When I purchased this unit I was also interested in a 2650ws fiver but at the time didn't think i wanted to pull with my F-150. I now have a F-350 diesel so have eliminated that concern. The 2650ws was a double rear slide out as well but a few feet shorter that the 2883ws. I like the island concept and if i had purchased the 2650ws my plan was to make my own island. I have a full wood shop so projects like that are doable. Another reason for choosing the 2883ws is I really like the Rockwood line of products. I've had very few issues with my 2504s. MAIN REASON, my wife spent days on you-tube looking at various units, floor plans, color choices etc. And said "this is the one".

We upgraded from a 2506s to the 2883ws in November and love it! Under the Bed we have two sets of golf clubs, two inflatable Kayaks, plus other misc. items. Tons more storage then the 2506s.

measurement

Thanks for the reply, we can't wait till we take possession of ours late Oct-early Nov. Fingers crossed! If possible and you have time could you please measure the distance from the end of the wooden bedframe enclosure to the end of the foot of the mattress? I made a shoe box storage that is 48"long x 9" tall x 18" deep. I want to make sure the 18" will not stick out past the end of the mattress. Thanks

Relder, I will look when I get home but suspect it will not be an issue. We have a 10x10 tent with full enclosure stored at the foot of the bed between end of mattress and joint bathroom wall under the front 'lip'. when stowed away we don't even know its there. Is your unit equipped with residential frig, automatic levelers, and solar?

Thanks, we went with the 18 Cu Ft propane/electric refer, auto levelers and solar. Plus a few extra items. We ordered from Wana RV in Shipshewana In. Same place we ordered our 2018 2504s from. I priced this unit here in So Cal and saved close to 13K. Well worth my drive back to pick up.

You will love the automatic levelers! I thought I died and went to heaven. Typically we can be leveled, and hooked up to water, sewer, and electric within about 15 minutes of arrival...:-)

timm9, I installed the lippert ground control automatic levelers on my 2504s, and yes, what a difference. Being that I'm close to my mid-seventies any features that make RVing easier/safer is a plus in my books.

I have a Ford f-350 diesel that I tow with and have ordered the OEM fifth wheel kit that installs under the bed to provide the attachment point for the fifth wheel hitch. Will install after it's delivered, What hitch do you use? I'm researching those now since owning a fifth wheel is new to me. Also, do you have a tonneau cover for your bed? I have a camper shell on mine now so will have to remove it and plan on installing a tonneau cover for when I'm not towing. Thanks

We are pulling with a Ram 2500 Crew Cab Cummins SRW. The truck already had a B&W Goose-neck Hitch so we opted to mate it with the B&W Companion Slider Hitch and very pleased. Before upgrading to the 5th wheel I had installed a 'tailgate handle' backup camera to be able to easily hookup alone. After getting the 2883ws I had to install a cargo/bed Camera as you can't see the 5th wheel hitch with the Crew Cab. Yes, we have a sliding tonneau cover which is perfect. When not connected it keeps hitch, etc. clean and out of sight...

timm9,
Good info, thanks. Will be looking at a bed camera now as well. My truck has the tailgate handle camera but like you said can't see the hitch in bed of a crew cab. I have read about the B&W hitch and it gets very good reviews. My bed is 6.75' long so imagine I will have to have the sliding hitch as well.

Did your unit come with Slide Toppers or do you plan on dong the Install? You have to under measure the one over the theater seats or it will be too wide. I ended up giving the first one to my oldest for his 5th wheel.

One word of caution when you get your new unit. They now come with remote control (One Connect?) that allows you to control awnings, lights, and Slides from your cell phone. Do not remotely close the slides without check to see what might be in the way. First night we had it home the Wife activated the Theater Seat Slide and crushed one of the Bar Stools...

I’ll be pulling my 2883ws with an Anderson Ultimate Connection, attached to my B&W Turnover GN Ball. TV is a 2015.5 Duramax (deleted) cc 6.5ft box…with the 8” reward…edit, rearward… position of the Anderson, I’m confident I won’t need a slider.

Really hoping the Rockwood factory builds me a good one and fulfills all the options I ticked off. Build her right, folks!

Hi Relder!

The Shoe Box looks good! I just hope my Wife does not see it...lol.

We were very pleased to find that our 2883ws came with the rear rack and the ability to also mount an e-Bike Rack.
