Inaccurate terminology in RV show

I'm sitting here watching a TV show called "Going RV." S1/Ep 11, RV For Family Memories."

The salesman showed a couple a 2 burner stove that folded out of the side of a Winnebago and called it a Bar-B-Q.

Then he showed them a Keystone Outback and they discussed the fact that it had no electric "hitch." Of course, they were talking about the tongue jack.

They even perpetuated the inaccuracy when they listed the Pros and Cons of each trailer in writing on the screen.

You'd think someone doing a show like this would at least use correct terminology.

Let me guess they let the couple leave the lot towing a 35 ft 9000 lb tt with midsize SUV and no wdh too.

Is that like being vanquished to a deserted island all alone ( except for a production crew of 6 or more). It's reality!!!

How It's Made: Dream Cars edition I see/hear it all the time. As an assembler was clearly installing the coolant tubes that run from the front to rear, the commentator called it a driveshaft.
This is just one example of many.

They are all designed to subliminally make us feel smart. Being able to tell the salesman he is wrong will cause you to unconsciously be nicer to him when it comes time to discuss pricing.

I blame the script writers not the guy reading the card with misinformation.

One of our members here family was on one of the RV shows recently. After posting about it I got hooked on watching the show even if I don't buy completely into what is shown especially going well beyond the budget by $80,000 or more.

Do you really expect entertainment and media types to know what they are talking about?

I watch this show whenever I can catch it. Since we're "in the market" right now.
I can relate to the inaccuracies though. As a pharmacist, I can say that anytime you see a prescription medication mentioned in any TV drama, 99% of the time they have it all wrong...

I was watching "Mecum Dealmakers" the other day when a guy was trying to sell his '70's model Toyota FJ40. During the interview with the owner, he said he "just wanted to get the Jeep sold". I nearly fell off the couch. For those who don't know, an FJ40 looks a good bit like a Jeep, but the owners would NEVER refer to them as such. (I'm a Jeep guy - my screen name refers to a 1953 Willys "flatfender") It would be akin to a Chevy guy referring to his vehicle as a Ford.

Also totally ridiculous was the fact that the owner said he wanted $40K for it, but ended up accepting 16K.

Doesn't matter what profession your in any time some one does a story they are bound to say something that is not right. In my case trains and they talk about a driver of a train da it's an engineer. Later RJD

Lets blame the schools. No shop classes of old, or if they do, its not if the instructor is knowledgable, but certified in PE or Home Ec.

I've always wondered why the person "driving" the train is called an engineer but they can't practice engineering.

It happens on this and other forums too. One example would be in a furnace or water heater with electronic ignition, the "flame sensor" is always being called a thermocouple which is used on standing pilot equipment.

I watched the RV show on TV for the first time this morning. The RV's they demo'ed were priced from $300K to $660K. They can call those ANYTHING they want. Doesn't bother me in the least. They are talking a different language....

We started camping for the first time this spring after being married 36 years and thinking that roughing it was Motel 6. We'll winterize this week after spending 35 nights in our glamper, as the DW calls it. This has been the best time ever.

I too am a pharmacist from Kansas City. Why there has never been a situation comedy about pharmacy baffles me. Good luck finding your camper, MarkyB.
