Jumping in on GeoPro

Hi all,
I am jumping into the RV world and decided to get the 19RD. I'm incredibly excited but I'm also feeling quite anxious because I feel like maybe I didn't do enough research. I'm confident in the trailer choice but I have never seen it and am driving to pick it up in California and drive it back to Texas.

I'm a bit worried that the dealer is going to try to sell me things I don't need and would like to know what the basic things I *do* need are. I'm already buying the weight distributing hitch and sway bars from the dealer but is the extended warranty worth it? What else do I need?

Welcome to the forum. I say NO to the extended warranty. The dealer will probably have some sort of "starter kit" that includes a sewer hose, sewer drain elbow, maybe a 30amp electrical cord. If you haven't pruchased them yet you will need those. I might suggest that you contact the DMV where you will register your trailer and ask what paper work you'll need from the dealer in CA.

Good luck & safe travels.

My dealer was so sad when I refused the extended warranty and any other ways to jack up price. You'll like the Geopro. Hopefully the one you are picking up has not been hit with all the substitutions for fridge, etc, that people are complaining about. Here's what you do for extended warranty: Put 200 bucks a month into a savings account. Self insure! Also, think how you want to use unit, if you ever want to go off grid, you'll want better batteries than what dealer give you. You can bring your own and your own battery box, dealer should credit you for the crap they would have given you.

My guy didn't give me any of that. When I complained that my buddy got that free stuff, he said, "oh no, it wasn't free. He paid for it". See what they offer you, then shop if you want better stuff, etc. I ended up spending $6,000 in 'add-ons' within the first year I owned GeoPro, a good chunk of that on solar and generators that I haven't used in 3 years, lol. BUT I'M READY FOR THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!

Personally, having lived in California for over 55 years, I would be driving to a Midwest dealer instead. Midwest prices are almost 100% cheaper than the West Coast and it's a shorter drive.

Thank you for your advice, it would likely have been easier to go to the midwest, but I didn't ask early enough. There were extenuating circumstances for the California trip. It's not completely random, but didn't seem necessary to explain the location choice other than I am planning on using the rv to get home.

I figure the trip back will help me define things that I'm missing without being unbearably daunting.

No, it's just that many of us West Coasters have done the opposite, since prices are much higher here. We drove from NorCal to Chicago to get our 1st new trailer.
There was no intention to offend.

No offense taken. It makes sense, monetarily. I will be the first to tell you that I didn't do all of my research and jumped in head first.

I'm with HangDiver. Don't get the extended warranty. I bought a 2020 GeoPro December 2019 and have had 1 minor issue with the GFCI outlet not being wired correctly. Didn't have to deal with substitutions though. Good luck on the drive back to Texas.

I added the extended warranty through Good Sam, more cost effective and covers a lot more than the factory. Just my two cents

First, congrads.... I bought mine last June and love it !! So, you made a good choice... Lots of good advise above, my advise, get comfortable driving / towing before you head back, get the dealer to make any adjustments to the hitch so your not struggling with it on the road. You might want the tech in the tow vehicle for a test drive.
