Kitchen Table reconfigured?

in my 2011 Rockwood 8281SS it has a folding kitchen table i do not like very much, can i put the two removable post on it instead, and get rid of the folding legs or will the floor mouting screws interfere with the slide out
i dont like the fact that i have to fold down the table everytime i move the camper

anyone else had this issue ?

There are several threads here on this very topic. Many with great ideas besides the floor pedestals. There is a caution in one about screws too long and ripping up the rug.

I just now stumbled across this thread.
We have the same issue.
The table legs must be folded each time we move
the trailer.
It's a PITA and since we don't use it as a bed totally
a waste of time since we have to put it back up as soon
as we get to our destination.

I bought a table hinge bracket kit like this--
Table Hinge Bracket Kit
but COULD NOT USE IT due to the window being too low
on the wall. The table hinge needed to be mounted on the
wall at a certain height and the window was in the way.
(I now have a table hinge bracket and table leg for sale ˘heap.)
I thought about purchasing/making some clips and
screwing our existing table legs to the floor so it can stay there
when we're on the road. I might simply drill holes
thru the existing table leg feet and screw it in place.
So far wife has nixed that idea and to be honest she usually
man handles (woman handles!) the table while I'm setting
up/tearing down outside.
I can't tell you how long screws you need but if
I fasten mine down I'm gonna use screws that only penetrate
the floor by 1/2".

If you come up with a better idea please let ME know!!

Also see this thread--
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...-mod-6904.html
It also shows the hinge bracket I mention above.
Our previous trailer had one in it and we liked it.
Our current trailer has a window in the way so can't make
this mod.
Maybe you can?

As someone that has experienced the same issue with this table being extremely wobbly (http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...legs-8885.html ) let me tell you how I "fixed" it: made it a permanently upright table by attaching metal plates where the legs fold. No more wobbles. However regarding your issue about folding it every time you break camp, I don't see a need for that. Our table, in its current and past condition, stayed pretty much in place while the TT was on the move. We do keep our indoor garbage can with a few indoor rugs underneath the table, but I don't think it has anything to do with the table staying. It does so by its own weight.

i was told by the dealer i had to put the folding table down before moving
i think the fold up leg set up for the table is a cheap set up and most likely fall down while moving the camper cause some damage
i know when it is set up it wobbles all over,
i guess i could just drive a screw through the locking bracket and through the floor and call it a day

thanks for the reply

I don't fold it up. I lean it against the rear bench with small cushions wedged against the legs to keep it from shifting. Hasn't moved noticeably yet. Too bad it's put away until April or I'd post a picture.

There's an idea!! We might give that a try next trip.
I know our trailer bounces on rough roads!!
The heavy glass plate bounced out of our overhead
microwave and hit the floor one trip.
Luckily it didn't break. Now it's part of the tear down
ritual and get's put in a drawer with the towels for road
trips.

FWIW we had the wall hinge table bracket our last trailer
and left it up many trips with no problem. We had stuff
fall out of cabinets and bowls get turned upside down
in cabinets but the table stood.
YMMV.

An issue that nobody brought with this table are the legs. If you have the tuscan interieur and the wood look flooring the legs feet are causing an indentation in the cushion floor. The wood look vinyl cushion floor is very soft and the legs will cause indentation in the vinyl. We installed a carpet to prevent this problem. I noticed this issue even before we took possession of our new rockwood trailer. I was able to remove the indentations with a hair dryer and the marks dissapeared after.

Good Thread
One of the things I liked about the Windjammer was the folding table, seems stable. Our current TH has the two pedestal design it is very unstable, I hate it. Every time you lean on the table it moves, very cumbersome when trying to have a nice dinner.

to Arn: maybe you will use your trailer sooner than april. With the way the weather goes we will be ready to camp sooner this year. I woke up this morning and the snow is all gone near Ottawa.

You're right. I'm 25 minutes west of Ottawa & I'm staring at my sons boat in the backyard. Time to put away the sled & get the boat & trailer ready. All we need is to find some parks that open before Victoria Day!

I have replaced the folding legs with 2 posts and used 4 of the aluminium post brackets. I used screws (as mentioned above , not too long as they will definately tear up the carpet). Always leave the table up when traveling with no problems and a simple matter to take the posts out by just lifting the table off and laying the legs down to convert to a bed.

Enjoy.

We have a 8280ws Rockwood with the same problem, I can't be certain that it's the same table though. The window is too low to attach it to the wall; it also is a hazard because the table could hit it if not secure. It's a slight pain to have to take it down each time we move.

It may be an overkill but my solution has been to cut two 2x3 boards to the length of the distance between the two dining bunks. I then placed placed them on the floor adjacent to and out side of the table legs (one on each side) to keep the table from moving side to side; the 1 1/2 inch heigth of the 2x3 is about the same height as the table leg on the floor. This was secured with screws thru the floor (not too far) and from the inside of the dining bunks with screws into the end of the boards. I then cut four 1x4 pieces about five inches long over the 3 inch portion of the 2x3, extended out over the table leg. I screwed these pieces into the 2x3 holding the four legs from moving upward. Removing the two outside 1x4's permits the table to be removed in case we want to use it outside or by the chairs or couch. It was all painted to blend in with the carpet.

It should be strong enough to hold the table but don't know. We haven't used it yet but will in the next week.

We typically travel with the table down (since we pile junk there when moving) but have traveled with it up as well. That table is HEAVY (too heavy for the flimsy legs IMHO) and does not seem to want to move when traveling. If it did "break loose" I have no doubt it would make a real mess of things. If it bounced high enough (like hitting a curb) it could also break the window on the way down.

I am working on the folding table issue. I have incorporated other posted fixes ( corner brackets) and installing aluminum angle sections to firm up the hinges. The hinge is where the movement is. My hope is that I can still use the folding option when the upgrade is complete. I have one side complete and I will post my repair when it's done. Goes very slow working with just a drill and grinder.
