L E D Interior Puck Lights TOO BRIGHT. SOLVED

I intalled a dimmer switch on the electric panel and now the puck lights can go from full blast down to a gentle glow that is so nice at night!!

I used a switch mentioned in these forums, install was easy if you are sorta handy...

Got it from Amazon, it is made in USA, by PCA Electronics part #
EPL101x Series 12v DC Dimmer.

SKU XOOOZ4M7MV

Long Shaft black model.

Pay attn to wiring diagram included with instructions. I kept the interior rocker switch to kill power to lights, but the dimmer also has an off position, but I leave dimmer in a positon and turn on off with the rocker.

Just powered from the rocker to the dimmer. Drill 1 quarter inch hole to mount the dimmer in the control panel.

Tested dimmer with panel pulled away from wall to be sure no heat issues. With all 8 puck lit on hi and all the way dim. No issues. No flickering, the dimmer got slightly warm with all 8 lights lit on high, but after 30 mins still only warm, not worth worrying about, plus I can not see when we would have all 8 lit at once anyway...

Nice update to do if those bright lights ever got on your nerves.

Sounds tempting, thanks for the details. Care to share a pic of the installed dimmer switch?

Push button dimmer

Here's another option, relatively inexpensive and avoids have a knob sticking out of the electrical switch panel. Mine is just inside the door, so not having something sticking out is a plus.

I haven't tried this yet, but I'm going to order it. The only downside is that when the main light power switch is turned off, I presume that the level setting on this device is probably reset. That doesn't really bother me, but I can see why some people might find it inconvenient.

It is a lot less expensive, at about $12 on Amazon.

Just my two cents - This one looks better than those turn knob type
It has an option for narrow or large slider and fits into small spaces
Good to use in RV, Auto, Truck, Marine, and Strip Lighting

$40? Woa.

I used these and took them apart, and tucked it in the wall or ceiling at the fixture.

Yes, that is the one.

Works great, picture is sideways but the knob for dimmer is below water pump switch.

No, they aren’t. I just replaced my ceiling puck lights with dimmable LED fixtures that have a warmer light temperature (in the vicinity of 3000ºK).

Dimmer Update

Have been using ours mostly with leds in full dim mode every night (camping in driveway at home) since the install.

Happy to say, no issues. We have 4 lit, 2 by entryway and 2 over the bed.

Nice low light at night, no more glaring bright pucks trying to watch tv. Lights lit on the full dim do not interfere or annoy tv watching, where before the dimmer install I would have to turn the pucks off...

No flickering, or heat issues at the lights or switch.

More enjoyable MiniLite camping this season.... when the lockdowns open up, which here in PA should be next week!

I am using Lumitronics LED, it's very bright. Put a cloth over the lights is a great idea. I will apply this idea to my rv led.

I mounted mine the same way. I have two, one for the blazing white LED awning lights. It's directly below the dimmer for the interior lights.

I bought a replacement strip of multi-color LED awning lights to use dim red or green to improve night vision. (No, I'm not going to use the disco functions.) It has its own remote control. I'll rewire the existing dimmer to control the amber porch ("scare") light.
