Ladder bike mount

Hello everyone! This is my first post. We bought a 8244WS a few weeks ago & I've been trying to figure out how to take our 2 bicycles. After reading all the posts on bumper & ladder mounts, I decided to send my question to Forest River. I received this answer back today & wanted to share it & get your feedback.

Ladder bike mount

We just picked up or new Ultra lite and it came with a ladder mount bike rack. We tried it out when we got home and were surprised at how well it held the bikes and how stable it was. It only holds 2 bikes but, that is 2 less bikes in the back of my truck so I'm happy about that.

Did you ever consider this type of bike carrier?

Thanx GloNDark......yours must be the one they sell, tho I can't seem to find any info on it online.....guess I'll have to call & ask. After reading so many negative comments on this forum, I'd about given up on even taking the bikes, but I'm not one to give up very easily. If you could post a photo, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx Caper......wish I could.....it looks awesome, but ours is a 5th wheel so I don't think we have room for something like that.

Great little Bikes.

Rollover to Zoom

I solved my bicycle hauling problem with this folding bike. It can be purchased for $129.00 plus free shipping. I place one between the foot of the bed in my Rockwood, Not folded & padded with towels. The other is folded and stored in the large storage compartment. They are 20" and serve the purpose as a regular bicycle. I have a basket on one for carrying items. I did modify both bikes with folding peddles.

If you wish; While they are pricey, google "Arvika Bike racks" you will find they have the same for 5th wheels. There is an accessory "Arvika 5th wheel 2" receiver" that attaches to the gooseneck on your trailer to extend the bike rack to the front of the 5th wheel

Here is a quick pic of the one that came with our trailer. I just set it in place, there is 2 straps that go around the rack arms and the ladder legs, then 4 straps that hold bikes in place. It's pretty solid when it's all cinched down.

For a fifth wheel, I had my father-in-law custom make a pin box bike rack. He's made me 2 now:

Thank you - very creative!!

I was actually looking at purchasing the Atwood ladder mounted bike rack (that's being sold as a Forest River accessory), but can't quite picture how the bikes would secure to the rack without sticking out beyond the edge of the camper a great deal...
