Late Season Camping

I'm interested in knowing how people feel their campers perform later in the season when it's getting cold. How much effect does having a slide put on retaining heat? From what I've read, the old campers you could essentially consider it being a giant hole cut in the side. Have improvements come a long way since then? Or are you still going to struggle to keep the inside warm without the heater running continuously? Thanks.

We have always used ours in below freezing weather. Always put out the three slides. Heater doesn't run constantly. It is colder by windows (even our double paned) but is easily fixed with thermaflex or blankets. Have had no problems with water lines or tanks freezing if we leave cabinets open. Ours has a sealed bottom which helps. You can pretty much camp in any weather if you prepare.

We have a 2504S. We've had it in 35 degree weather with the furnace set to 70, and it cycles maybe twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off, something like that. With the slide out and the bathroom ceiling vent cracked a bit to keep condensation under control. Worked great, I was very happy with the furnace performance.

We use our til about Thanksgiving and start camping around Easter. The outside temp. can get below freezing and we have no issues other than the water hose has frozen once. Took care of that problem.

We have a camper with an open belly and we do not get cold. Being 36 feet long we do supplement our furnace with a space heater in the garage area as there are no heat vents in there.
