my camper just had a WFCO 8955 Converter failure, being replaced this week when it arrives, and it never Charged the battery, which certainly seemed odd since we bought it a month ago - but we were plugged in all the time, so I wasn't concerned until the unit failed all together...
now that I think about it, I wonder if the former owner, who installed a battery right before we bought it, had the Positive and Negative cables reversed. Since we saw the camper while it was plugged in, and have always had it plugged in since it has been parked on our lot for the last month - I never gave it much though, although I do remember that when we were setting it up, anytime I had to unplug the 30amp cable, we lost all power to everything, even the lights and fans. I thought that 'some' of that stuff should be working even if only on the battery...so I just chalked it up to a low battery, at the time.
Since the Converter failed, though, I'm wondering now if the former owner's accidental miswiring of the battery cables could have caused not only the Converter not to charge the battery, but also it's own eventual demise? Neither 40amp fuse, though, is bad, even though I would have thought that one would have burnt out.
