I put shutoff valves in my low point drains. Works fine.

There are no shutoffs on low point drains, why would there be, they are drains. Who would remove a cap on a pressurized system, would you remove your water hose while the water is still on? Look and see if there are rubber washers on the cap like there are on hose connections, if not go to the hardware store and buy two the size you need.

Have you ever heard of the concept of convenience, as it's convenient not to have to worry about loosing the rubber washer or cap.

Do you worry about losing your fuel cap whenever you fill your vehicles, or your lawnmower, or your generator, etc?

That is a very weak argument.

Ive had caps on the low point drains and never ever lost one. I simply set it nearby so that it was "Convenient" when I got done draining the system.

I admit, ball valves are more handy and in fact easier. That is why I simply put my Big Boy pants on and installed them on all those drains.
