Mini Lite Tongue Jack

Anybody know what brand electric tongue jack Rockwood is putting on the Mini Lite trailers nowadays? Of all the manuals I got, the one I didn't get was for the tongue jack.

I'm wondering if its a piece of junk. I think it went into standby for being too warm as I was having issues getting the coupler off the ball (I guess I ran it up and down too much); when I inspected the fuse I noticed it was only a 20 amp. I was expecting 30 amp for a 3500 pound jack.

Anyway after I let it sit for awhile I was back in business. I'm just wondering if its a cheap component.

???

Thanks !

I had the same question. See post # 6 of this thread. If yours looks like mine, it's made by Quick Products.

I have a 2018 Micro Light 21DS that appears to have a FCI-3500. If your jack looks like the one on this page Fastec Aftermarket, you have the same one.

Same Jack

We have a 2109S and have same jack but zero issues with ours. We probably only been out in it for 50 or 60 days so far. Purchased in March 2019

post what you replace it with and what you think of the change.

Good Luck

Yep. The original failed on our second time out. The housing cracked down both sides, and the jack would not move up or down.

We replaced it with a Husky 4500.

I’m looking at the Husky 4000.

Looks like you just run the wire with a eye on the end straight to the junction that the original one is tied into. It looks like the hot off the battery is wired to the battery disconnect, which is then wired to that junction. The 20 amp fuse is throwing me off though, as its not connected directly to the jack.

The Husky has it circuit breaker inside, so I’m not sure the fuse would matter in my case. Maybe the fuse is used for something else?

So anybody else replace the FIC jack? Most of the instructions for other jacks wire right to the battery. I’d love to wire into the disconnect I already have, but that 20 amp fuse gives me pause. Could I just pop a 30 in there with the jack upgrade? I can’t figure out what else that fuse could be to. I should pull it next time and see if I still have juice at the jack.

If the fuse wasn’t ‘Y’ connected to another run I’d just remove it if it’s in fact tied to the FIC jack.

Related question there is no harm in leaving the fuse alone and wiring a new jack straight to the battery right?

It may also supply the "hitch assist light" mounted on the front of the trailer (if you have one).

I do have one - so could I swap the 20 amp fuse for a 30 amp fuse? I’d love to wire this new jack through the disconnect.

Don't do that! The fuse is sized at 20 amps to protect the wiring to the jack. You seem to imply that going to a 30 amp fuse will somehow give you more power? Not true.

No I want to replace the $99 msrp job with a Barker or Bulldog jack. The bulldog has an internal breaker - maybe I’m better just wiring it to the battery and forget the disconnect.

I've never seen a power tongue jack w/ less then a 30 amp, so my assumption is a stronger jack will blow the 20 amp that I already have inline. Unless of course I wire straight to the battery and forget all this.

Fuse amperage is directly relative to wire size. If you want a bigger fuse you very likely need thicker wire as well.

I think I'm just going to wire it straight to the battery. The jack has a on/off switch - I'll get a multimeter and see if there is a phantom draw on it.

So I stopped by the camper today to change out the baggage locks.

My jack mystery deepens. I pulled the 20 amp fuse and my jack and front light still work. So it looks like my FIC jack had no inline fuse at all.

Looks like an easy job to swap the jack now - but I wonder what the fuse is for? The jack and front light should have died with the fuse pulled right?

Just picked up our new 2511SB and having tongue jack issue. It began with intermittent operation both up or down. Finally the up / down switch stopped working. The front light went dim then went completely out. Weird.

All the other 12V systems are working fine and the power out the 12V Charge center is showing 12.65V. Tested power at the junction box on the frame where the tongue jack wire connects too and there is 12V power.

Does the side cover come off? Maybe the hot lead is loose and not connecting any longer?

Just went out to check it again. I put my foot bottom pedestal and it started working again, even the front light is bright again as well. What the heck?

I sent an email to FR customer / tech service regarding that fuse. They responded w/ a voice call (which I thought was nice).

That 20 amp fuse is for the slide out.

Kudos to FR for responding in a timely fashion and in a personal fashion to boot !
