Murphy bed strap

We picked up our new 2507s yesterday and are quite pleased with everything so far however when we were putting the Murphy bed back to the up position the release strap came off and I noticed there was not a washer between the strap and bolt to fully secure the strap onto the bed. I could place a washer but would have too back-out spring loaded bolt to disassemble mechanism and I really don't want to do this until I talk around and see if there in a better solution.Click image for larger version

If it's a new trailer, it's likely under warranty. Is the dealer close enough to bring it in for a fix?

My 2503S doesn't have a strap like that. Does that strap hold the mattress to the bed or hold the bed to the cabinets when closed?

Ours has metal pins with handles to hold it closed. See pics (sorry, 2nd one rotated 90 deg clockwise for some reason).

Actually neither, the strap when attached pulls the spring loaded bolt out about 1/2 inch to release the bed down position. Ours does have the same locking pin as shown in your picture. I really don't know why they added this locking feature other then maybe it was a safety item. Also I'm pretty sure this is new for 2018 models. Thanks for reply,

P.S. How long have you had your 2503s and what do you like best about it.

So I'm thinking the bolt prevents the legs from folding under? I could see someone might kick them under, but we've never had that problem.

This is our 3rd season with our 2503S. DW LOVES the large bathroom. We were originally looking at the 2304. I said what about one of the 2500 series? She wasn't sure she wanted to go that big, but one look at the bathroom convinced her! I liked the U-dinette (but hate the crappy table).

We looked at the smaller series also and then when we saw the nice bathroom with the big shower in the 2507 we made up our minds because we could possibly live in this thing for weeks since our kids live in Louisiana and were from Ohio.

Sadly, my wife and I looked at a 2018 2306 today. We pulled the bed down not knowing about the new locking mechanism. When we told the salesman we couldn't get the bed up, he showed us the locking mechanism and the same thing happened on a previous attempt to pull that latch. Apparently, they hadn't had a chance to fix it. Seriously, what's two washers going to add to the price of the coach? Shame on FR. It's crap like this that really ticks off customers. At the very least it backs up the the claim that corporations, especially in the RV industry, are cheap for the sake of cheap.

We have a 2013 2503, this year our spring loaded pull mechanism broke while we were on vacation. Husband zip tied the mechanism. Works great without the mechanism, can anyone tell us why we need it? Always disliked the big loud bang it would make while pulling on it. Also we love the second exit door, large shower in the large bathroom! Love this model and only 2 of us.

This is a safety lock designed to hold the bed in the down position. A lady got herself trapped in the lifted Murphy when sitting at the head and her dog jumped into her lap. Paramedics had to chop her out of the folded up Murphy!

We just picked up our 2018 2509s and it does have two washers on the strap, one on each side of the bolt. So I wonder if it was one of those things that is supposed to be there, but was forgotten when they were putting the OP's trailer together.
Ours works pretty well and I don't mind it- I was in another brand of trailer that had a Murphy without a lock and scooted myself up to the head of the bed. I was sitting up with my back against the 'headboard' area as you would while reading...and I could totally feel the foot of the Murphy bed start to get light...it would be easy for it to close and trap me in there since there was no lock like the one in our Mini Lite.

What does it "lock" into?

So you pull the strap towards you to unlatch..the other end of the latch looks like it goes almost all the way to the head of the bed. When you pull the strap, it pulls the latch back, unhooking it from the catch at the head of the bed. When you're putting the Murphy down, the latch automatically catches as the bed lowers. I didn't get a chance to really look at the mechanism- you can only sort of see it when you're standing at the foot of the bed.
Ok, that was probably totally confusing and Im' sure someone will take pics and have a better explanation!

Thanks for the explanation. That's a pretty long bolt!

(It must be attached to a long rod.)

Our old 2015 2504S didn't have this locking mechanism, and our new 2018 2504S doesn't have it either? Wonder what determines which beds get one and which beds don't. If they added it as a safety to prevent someone from being trapped by the bed as a previous poster mentioned, I am a bit perplexed as to how I have never seen it before and how ours doesn't have it?

Our Murphy bed strap just pulled off of the bolt head today and I am not going to tie up our trailer in repair shop just for this. I will use 2 cable ties to make a new strap. One cable tie around the bolt and the other one will make into a loop to form a pull strap. Then I'll tighten the first cable tie. Should work. I'll post pictures after the repair is done.

it is NOT a long bolt. it is a long rod with a screw at the end. Grab the rod with a pair of pliers and hold it out with vice grips. Unscrew the screw then put on a fender washer, both ends of the strap, and another fender washer. Screw it back in and release the vice grips.

My 2018 2304KS was built in June of 2017, bought in August of 2017 and it does not have the locking mechanism. It's also a pre-rounded front without the big window.

We purchased a 2019 2507S last month. Every time we just simply pull on the bolt head to unlatch it. Never used a strap to release the bed. Was this a new change for 2019?
