Need information

I just purchased a 2015 Rockwood 8329SS. It is the biggest a heaviest trailer I've towed. Pulling it with a 2009 Silverado 2500HD. 6.0 gas 6 speed auto. Plan on pulling up the Sierras. Just want to make sure I have enough truck to get me where I want to go. Any comments out there?

We have an 8314BSS.

Your trailer is 300-400 pounds heavier but with less tongue weight than ours. We pull with a half ton Tundra and ours handles fine.

There are those that think pulling a trailer with an empty weight of 7000 pounds with a 1/2 ton pickup is border line. You have a 3/4 ton and although I am not knowledgeable about your truck I bet you are going to be fine.

Make sure you are using a good quality weight distribution hitch and that it is set up correctly. Ours is Equal-I-zer brand but there are several other major brands that get good reviews.

In late summer we pulled ours from Texas to Estes Park CO and then over the Rockies from Estes Park CO to Durango CO and we did great. I had heard that at high altitude I would loose 25-35 percent horsepower but if I lost any horsepower I did not notice nor did I need more power. Now gas consumption was dismal though. Worst was in the panhandle of Texas with a head wind. Over the mountains was between 9 and 10. What goes up eventually gets to come down.

Good luck with your purchase.

I have a 8327ss pulled with a f350 with 6.0 diesel. These trailers pull great. Much better than my old wildwood did. You will be fine with a weight distribution hitch.

We have a 2014 Rockwood 8329ss and tow with a Ford F250 Super Duty. We towed it across the mountains in WV last year to Harpers Ferry and on to Williamsburg. It towed just fine. At Harpers Ferry we camped next to a couple that had a 2012 8329ss. They towed with an F150 with the eco boost. He said he did not even know the trailer was back there. I know it is back there with the F250.

Can someone please explain what it is with these eco boost F150 Fords that they seem to be able to pull anything ?

I think someone saying that they do not even know it is back there is an exaggeration, especially with a half ton pickup. As I have mentioned in other posts our 7500 pound 8314BSS pulls great but I can assure you I never forget it is back there.

Those eco boost engines are said to pull really good. Can they pull anything? Beats me. All I know is that it is still a 6 cylinder engine and I hope they hold up under the pressure of pulling heavy trailers.

I read that the engine is putting out some good HP and torque specs from the 2.7 and 3.5 eco boost but how is the rest of the truck set up to pull some of the weights people are posting? Curious minds want to know ???

I have a 14 ecoboost and it will tow anything. But the suspension is so soft I wouldnt tow my trailer with it. My 8327ss has a 1250lb tongue weight and weighs in wet about 9k lbs. I actually hitched it up with my equalizer hitch and was going to go way it but didnt feel comfortable enough to even leave the house. I much prefer my F350 for towing. But it would do it a pinch im sure

Ok guys let's get back on topic. OP is asking about silverado 2500 gasser not eco boost. You will not be the first up the mountain but take it slow and steady and you should be fine.

I have a 2009 chevy 2500hd 6.0 6 speed and tow a 8500 lbs TT. Your gonna know its back there for sure and the trucks gonna work hard. I towed mine thru the hills of KY. and it did fine.
That said I would not feel good about taking my 8.5k unit in high elevation mountain towing.

If ya do tow it there, let me know how the truck does.

It is going too tow the load just fine. Only issue is plan your fuel stops every 300 miles or so. Yes you will get more but not a lot more so plan and be prepared.

JKenney, I have a '13 2500 Savanna 6.0L 6 speed. I pull a 8327SS. You will definitely know it is back there, but it will tow it comfortably. We took it through the Smokies last summer and it was adequate. I stayed in the right hand lane with the semi trucks on those long 6 - 7% uphill grades, RPM's up around 3000, 98 degrees out, and kept up with them. So, yes the 6.0 worked hard but did the job. Flat land towing it is a solid, drama free drivetrain that works VERY well. Hope this helps!
