New mid year 2016 8289WS changes - D range tires and center island

We just picked up our new 8289 that had a late October build date. Spending the first weekend at a campground a few miles from the dealer. 36 degrees this morning

Rockwood has changed their center island. The prior island with the doors on the fireplace side was the one item my wife didn't like. The new one is similar to that in the new 8289. We really like it and find the convenience much better. Perfect spot for the trash can and all the stuff we keep under the sink at home. We heard from Rockwood that customers were asking for the change and they had been considering doing it. Nice improvement that will be a hit in the marketplace.

The other big change is that D range tires are now standard. Still a mystery Chinese brand but D rated nonetheless.

Actual weight came in at 8380 lbs with a single 15K A/C.

One question. Our Keurig machine only flashes instead of working. Same story for a heating pad. A high draw blow dryer works fine in the same outlets. We are hooked to electricity at a campground. Does this sound like quality of supply from the campground or an issue with the new trailer? Click image for larger version

Major kudos to Rockwood for listening to their customers. Impressed so far.

I'm guessing your Keurig is bad. Try plugging it directly into the camp power pedestal and see what happens.

Look up where your tires were made here:

Tire DOT Plant Codes ? Sorted by Plant Code - Tire Safety Group

You may find they were not made in China (mine were made in France). The first 2 characters of the tire ID # are the plant code.

Nice island and seems much more useful...I better not show the DW, she will want to trade ours in!

Tires are CastleRock ST D rated by Lionshead and say ' Made in China'. 2540 lbs per tire weight rating at 65 lbs.

I tried the heating pad and the Keurig at the shower house here and neither worked. I'm getting about 113-114 volts in the plugs so I don't think it is a problem with the trailer electrical. Thank God there is a McD's about two miles away for morning coffee.

Get one of these:

Mr. Coffee® Simple Brew 4-Cup Switch Coffee Maker White, TF4-NP

Cheap and almost indestructible. (And greener, too, if you're into that.)

Woodguy00, we very recently took delivery of a 8529IKBS that has the same kitchen island. It is a super design improvement over the older island! Those under island LED ambient lights are perfect for leaving on after you hit the sack. Just enough light to see the steps in the middle of the night.

Enjoy your new rig!

5Picker,

Where do you turn on those lights? I don't think we have them but perhaps we just don't know how bad to turn them on!

Ours turn on by a switch located on the wall where your microwave is located.
The wall/cabinets in ours is slightly different so maybe yours doesn't have them or the switch is somewhere else?
Look up under the metal base between the fridge and the island (below the island cabinet doors)... ours has an LED strip light attached up under the full length of the base.

Look at the attached photo. While it was daylight and the entry door was open,
the light was actually on and you can see the illumination on the left lower side.

Our switch is with two other switches on the right hand side of the wall.
Look directly above the island faucet in the photo, it's the brown/black box closest the top of the three. (switches - USB charge outlet - 110v outlet)

I realize your wall is different but maybe you have the same switch/outlet combo somewhere?

I really like your unit. My wife and I have a Rockwook 2013 8289ws Diamond Package. Even though our islands are similar I like yours better. Our island also doesn't have the doors on the the entertainment system side. We have something we like that you don't have to the right as you walk into the unit before the staircase to the bedroom. We have cabinetry that is similar to a larder and on the backside you have more storage for towels or bedding. We love our unit! We wish you great camping and wonderful memories.

Bears, thanks for the well wishes. Not sure why Rockwood went to the 'reverse' island for a while.

5picker, no LED's on ours. Now my DW is jealous. Well she already was for the bedroom slide. We are pulling with the 2015 F150 3.5 Eco. I thought the 8289 was as big as I wanted to go. Easy tow of about 150 miles through Western PA and WV hills/mountains today.

From earlier post, our Keurig and heat pad are working at a WV state park tonight. It must have been bad juice at the other campground.

Sorry it doesn't have the LED's. Probably easy to do! Make the wife happy!
If by chance you were anywhere near Somerset while in Western PA today, you were within spitting distance of me. It was good you kept moving though... they were making snow here at the ski resorts today!

Hey Woodguy00

When we bought ours we thought it was large. We soon found out that for two people the unit was just right. Ours weighs a little over 8,000 lbs. We pull it with a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500. It does a real nice job. I might mention to you another feature that you have that we thought we were getting was the door from the bedroom to the bathroom. On the 2013 unit they did away with it. We were disappointed. I might encourage you to make sure you check your roof on a regular basis. This year I found all four corners needed to be worked on. We'll be leaving for Florida pretty soon. Can't wait. Have fun and be safe.

I just bought a 16 my self. But the island is different. I like that one better.

Yeah, our island has the doors on the opposite side. That's one of the first things my wife noticed. Way better the way you have them. Is there still room with the sink there?
