New sidesteps

Have you guys seen the new sidesteps? They are on the unit that we just ordered, a 2018 8311WS.
We have not used them yet ... The concept is very interesting, you're resting the weight on the floor and not hanging from the side of the camper.
The only problem I see is that you store them inside the camper, you flip them over behind the doors. So you are bringing dirt or water inside or at least something else to clean and or dry.
What are your thoughts or experience with them ???

These steps sold like hot cakes at the rally, 300.00 plus. They are a much sturdier step, the con to them is just as you stated, dirt and water being brought into the trailer when put them up for travel.

This was one of the things we made sure our unit we ordered would be equipped with. Nice and solid for us older people. MorRyde sells a handrail to go with them that we may purchase later.

Great Add on.
Purchased and installed in May. We have the morryde step above.
Easy to install and work as advertised. The screen door and entry door moved tight for the first few times but now work very smoothly.
I removed the old stairs. I like to save weight where I can.

I just ordered a set online! My wife hates that the original folding step are so bouncy. My only real concern is when you have a sloping campsite wher the tongue is practically on the ground. I can see wher it could be an issue. You also need a little more room on the side to lower them. I heard that dealers don't like them because they have to leave a little more room between the units on the lot. In my book, pros far outweigh the cons! I have a trip to Door County in Wisconsin planned over the Labor Day weekend and I hope my set gets her before then!

They would be nicer if they stowed/slid underneath like a loading ramp on a Uhaul truck.

One more Con is that if your trailer is in a storage lot, usually there is not enough room in between the trailers to allow letting those stairs down - therefore making you pull it out enough to have enough clearance to open door and let stairs down.

Saw them for the first time this year and really like them. Dont think its an option to upgrade to on the Rockwood model we are going to buy.

All the Rockwood/Flagstaff 5th wheel units they were building during the Rally Tour had these steps! Of ALL the Divisions on display at the Rally I was MOST impressed by the New Fold Down Steps installed on the Rockwood/Flagstaff units! PS,Don't lift these stairs up and close the Door if People are Hidden Inside! Youroo!!

Hi,

We had ours installed at the Rally. When down, they only extend out a few inches beyond our Silverback main slide. And wow are they easier to negotiate with these old knees.

I moved a whisk broom to a hook next to the door, to give them a quick hit if needed. And since we keep a pretty substantial throw rug at the door anyway, a little dripping hopefully won't be a problem if we have to pack up in rain.

FWIW.

We saw them at the local RV show last January and the DW insisted we get a set. Took about 20 minutes to install. We love them--so much easier on our knees and solid as a rock. We just make sure we sweep them off real well before folding them up. We put the carpet thread covers on so I just remove them if they get wet and dry them out before installing again. Top step doesn't have the carpet because of the construction of the steps but I can dry that step if need be.

So these can replace any current steps. or are they model specific? Coming from someone that has a 3 step setup, but the usual kind you see

We had the MorRyde 3 step installed at the FROG Rally. They are truly a great product. We had to make a few adjustments to our screen door so it wouldn't drag while closing or opening. They were talking about making a lockable box that would fit in the cavity where the original steps are. Never can have too much storage. We just left those steps in place for now. Lippert has a similar step. However, the top step was deeper than the other steps (kinda like a platform). We didn't like that at all. Even the wife can operate, raise & lower, the new steps by herself. Only thing needed are a few measurements, exterior door size (located on a sticker on door), sill depth, and door opening width. That is what determines whether or not you can mount them on your unit. MorRyde offers different width models. They are not model specific.

I'm a gadget guy. I buy about anything that might 'help'. But I don't get these steps. The problem the Flexco steps have is contact with ground (stability). One or two Stromberg-Carlson step supports at about $15 solves that problem, retains the steps that fold up OUTSIDE the camper, and is cheap.

IF I were to buy different steps, the Glowsteps seem to be about the only ones that are really better but stay outside. But pricey!

They (MorRyde) have a chart on their website to choose the right model for your trailer. Depends on door width and floor height. My fifth wheel was a three step traditional setup but we have 4-step with the MorRyde. I had to remove the transition piece inside the door to install the new steps. Eight screws and you're done.

Hi,

I had them remove my old steps at the Rally, and saw the storage box at Morryde the following Monday when I was having wet shackles installed.

Pretty basic steel locking box, with holes predrilled to fit the holes from the old steps. I decided to hold off for now, but the hole in the sidewall will probably drive me to do something eventually.

FWIW.
