Nice rack!
2018 geo pro g19fd...with a rear rack.
To begin, yes I know this voids my nonexistent warranty.
Wanted a place to put about 75-100lbs of gear on the back, namely EMPTY water jugs and a 2000w generator with gas can and the portable waste tank. Pretty much the stuff I don’t ever want inside. And as the TV is a suv, options are limited.
I didn’t want to weld directly to the flimsy frame. Instead, I used some 1.75” square tubing (1/8” thick, could have been 1/16?) and welded some 1.5” angle iron to the back 18” of the tubing. This, as a unit, fits perfectly in the “S” of the frame, meaning it’s blocked by 3 of 4 sides naturally in the existing factory frame. Then I just used a few grade 8 bolts to secure it in place. Repeat on the other side, finally notch 1.75” box on the rear splash pan. If I wanted, everything is removable with about 8 bolts.
Thereafter, I just used some 2”x5” square u-bolts and bolted to 2x4 and into bottom of my plastic tubs.
Very happy how it turned out, it’s very solid. I’m 200lbs and can bounce on it with no deflection on steel tubing. And thus far no drama while driving!
I know this isn’t for everybody but I feel it’s far better (lighter!) than building a receiver hitch and/or welding to the frame.
