Nitrogen is ALMOST inert. So it doesn't contribute to much of anything. That is why it is used in industry so often.. (Used in shock absorbers, hydraulic equipment and lots of other things to PREVENT foaming, oxidation and seal damage. If it contributed to rot, I am pretty sure it would have been discovered by now.)
It certainly would not contribute to dry rot. (other than it is dry)
While the advantages of N are very slight, it CERTAINLY has no disadvantages. (other than cost and availability).

I bought a John Deere lawnmower in 1985. I had it for 27 yrs. Rear tires never changed. Rarely had to add air; maybe every few years. They were still good when I got rid of it (for other reasons).

I've seen tons of rust and corrosion in older rims, on cars and motorcycles. Perhaps our PA climate of winter/summer/salt on teh roads is a factor.

Major portion of my life spent in northern Missouri and northern Illinois (Quad City area) and Chicago where they measure salt on the street in inches. I did state the alum/steel wheels with INFLATED tires, not flat tires sitting for months/yrs.

Sorry guys, but the anecdotal evidence means nothing to someone who is an engineer and spent lots of time in R&D and applied research in several industries. All of the things I posted are facts. The minor advantages of N over air and your decision to use or not, can be made anyway you want. But instead of old wives tales and urban legends, I thought you might want some facts.

Being an engineer in the aerospace industry for 40 plus years has taught me that sometimes the anecdotal evidence is telling you the physics isn't totally understood. We engineers have our calculations and "laws" that sometimes approximate but don't totally match the real world.
And as previously stated I really don't buy into the N2 hype at all.

Have come to the conclusion that any discussion of nitrogen in tires should fall into the same category as religion & politics and be ban from the forum.

The laws on gasses are pretty well understood (and applied). As an engineer do you really believe the chemical reactions of N2 and O2 are not understood? I don't buy into the N2 "hype" either. But I am quite aware of the minor advantages. No "hype" here.

We've been eating food for a lot longer than we've even known N or O existed and I'm betting food and nutrition is studied a lot more than gas permeation in rubber pressure vessels.
So should I eat eggs or not? Is GMO ok or not? What about irradiated meat? And lately they're saying low fat milk is less good for you than full fat milk.
The average life expectancy in the US is what, 82 or so? Anecdotal evidence shows I will live to 95+ so I best take care of myself. But then I may have a blow out and die in the median of some interstate next month. So I can eat what I want and suffer the (probable?) consequences.
