Opening over Bathroom door

While looking at the ultralight trailers, we noticed a large opening above the bathroom door. This opening seems to be on a number of the trailers. Is there a reason for not enclosing the door?

Thanks in advance

Pat

It is done that way to promote air flow. On my trailer, the furnace is in the back and the bath is in the middle. If I close the door the largish opening is needed to get return air back to the intake on the furnace. Trailers don't have return cold air ducts to feed the furnace like a house does.

I don't know, but after my kids use the bathroom, I would prefer there be no air returned to the rest of the camper. Just shut the door, open the ceiling vent and turn the fan on.

Air flow and to help allow shower steam to escape and not keep all the moisture in the bathroom. Typical on most campers.

Gap

Also on bedroom doors, top and bottom for airflow.

X2
Every R/V I've owned has been this way.

For those with a Fantastic Fan or similar higher volume fan in the bathroom, you probably have felt how much air they move. Without the opening, they won't be nearly as effective. My vent will pull the bathroom door shut if not fully latched, even with the opening at the top.

Airflow is one reason. Another is to clear anything on the ceiling. My bathroom door would hit a ceiling light if it weren't for the top being cut down.

It's so everyone in your trailer can enjoy the exquisite aroma of your visit.

I agree with most. Yes air circulation, but not all have it.

We are three in a row without it. Our current shower room has exterior vent with fan as well as heater and AC vents. Those with the big gap generally, do not or at least not all three.

Cost Savings...

Well maybe not.
Airflow for fan in bathroom, air in = air out.

And where do you think the air is coming from to supply the fan? That's exactly why the gap is there.

And yet, my experience is just the opposite.

Our current 5th wheel bath has a ceiling fan, two A/C vents and a heat register and the door has gaps at the top and bottom. (bigger at the bottom)

Not all R/Vs are the same. Go figure!

I wouldn't want any interior door to be too flush with the jamb. There's a certain amount of shifting going on that at some point the door might not close properly and you might have to shave the top off a bit to correct the problem.

From the 2" gap at the bottom of the door. To me, none of the reasons posted for the gap at the top are valid except maybe the cost post. My units have never had such a gap regardless placement of the furnaces etc.

I really think this assumption that it allows airflow is a wives tell . i have 2 interior both seal up nice up top . the gap is at the bottom doesn't help with heat flow maybe AC lmao. i really think they have a standard size door and who ever installs it decides if they mount it high , low or in the middle , . If it were for air flow they would be the same on all units and i can attest that's not the case on mine . the bed room dors are pocket doors so they are also mounted high with the gap at the bottom . my bathroom door and door to garage are also mounted where the seal at the top . I would think with a TH that the garage door would be sealed better at the bottom since gas vapors are lighter then air but no

We have a door that is flush at the top and bottom. When we get out of a steamy shower, there is a lot of condensation on the mirror even with the ceiling vent open + fan running. My wife figured out that if she opens the A/C vent (we added a closeable one) and the A/C is running, there's enough air for it to suck in to keep the mirror free from condensation.

My first rig had a gap and we didn't need to make sure that vent was open.

No assumption on my part.
Every R/V we've had, has had gaps at the door and a ceiling fan and you can 'feel' the air coming in under the door with it shut and the fan on.
