Outside Propane
We have a Rockwood Ultra Lite and the propane hooks to the side of the camper. I am not a fan of that setup. What type of arm extension does everyone use off the back bumper and where can I find a propane extension that I could run from the side to the back?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is our first new camper :-)

i think the OP is talking about the propane quick connect on the side, for the grill, that hangs on the side rail.
OP, you'll have to add an extension hose or re-route the quick connect to the rear bumper.
i have the rear quick connect on my new trailer. i wish it had the side connect, like i had on my old HTT. much easier and cheaper and i used it for 10 years with no issues. even with the awning out.

I believe the OP is saying he doesn't like the exterior LP outlet on the side of his trailer and the way the grill mounts to the side. He wants to know what others are using to move the grill to the rear bumper and how they connect the exterior LP outlet to the rear bumper to feed the grill.

I've heard horror stories of the awning catching fire or the side melting. I did now see it can be put on a table. I might just do that instead. Gonna weigh all my options.

Never heard or seen such horror stories other than the "I heard from a friend of my uncle's brother who was talking with someone at the campground who heard from someone else..." stories and I've never experienced anything close to that with any side-mounted grill and I'm always checking to make sure none of the trailer surfaces are heating up.
Not saying it could never happen due to a flare-up from grease, but it won't happen with a properly-functioning grill when used correctly.

In 15 years on being a member of 6 different RV forums, I've NEVER seen anything about such a thing happening.
So if it really did, RV manufacturers would have been sued and such a setup would've been discontinued.
So I think they are rumors at best but please post the source of these horror stories.

I used the outside grill attached to the side of my Surveyor with the awning extended for close to 10 years and have never had a problem. I have used the new grill twice on the new rig the same with no issues. Not saying it can't happen but I personally have never seen it or heard of it happening.

Continuing this discussion...
How do you clean the grease off the bottom of the canopy? I can pressure wash the side, but I would rather not do the same thing to the canopy.

What in the world... I have no grease from the grill anywhere on the trailer or awning.  You cooking some high-fat meats that end up being super smokey?

In 10 years of grill usage, NEVER had any grease inside the awning.
Mold/Mildew, Yes.

Lol! I have worked in restaurants for many, many years. Even if you don't see it, there is grease buildup anywhere smoke/vapors might condense. If you only use it lightly, you might not notice it for years, but part of our camping experience is cooking. So we will be using it a TON.
