Pin height

Does anybody know the pin height (bottom of pin to ground when sitting level) of a late-model 8289WS?

Thanks,

Dudley

Ok, wasn't sure how that worked. Not familiar with the Reese hitch that comes standard now. Wondered if they were just bolting those into a Lippert or other OEM box. I guess the correct question is: Does anyone know the pin height of a Reese Revolution on a 8289WS?

Hello Stephen,

I have a 2829WS with Reese Revolution Hitch. I had too ad a lift kit to tow level with the F 150 and have enough clearance between box and trailer. With my F350 I actually had to drop my Reese Elite Truck hitch 2 holes (about 2 1/4 inches) to level out. The clearance I have is 6 1/2 inches all around.

I actually have the opposite problem. Our 2004 F350 dually sits lower than today's trucks but I need to lift the trailer because of ground clearance issues. So, my trailer will be high and the truck low. I'm worried I won't be able to raise the truck hitch enough to meet the raised pin height. Pin height on my current trailer is 43.5". I can raise the hitch to about 46. Hoping the normal pin height of a 8289ws/Reese Revolution is around 43/44 or less.

So, I've been measuring pin height wrong. What I actually need to ask is: what is the height from the ground to the skid plate above your Reese Revolution pin when your trailer's sitting level?

I think the real question is...what are you trying to accomplish to begin with?

We have a high angle of attack entering/exiting our driveway. Need a trailer with a lot of ground clearance at the back. It looked like the 8289 fit the bill if we added the Dexter lift kit. I assumed the pin height was 47", which would be 50" after the lift. My hitch maxes out at 50", so all would be good.

Then I started hearing about pin heights of 49-50". Adding the lift in that case would leave me towing nose-down by 2-3", which would stress my front axle/tires. So, for now, I've cancelled the lift kit order until I can get to the trailer and take some careful measurements with it sitting level: pin height and ground clearance at the rear stabilizers (the low point). I may have to choose between risking dragging my stabilizers and living with the nose down by 3".

Was hoping someone knew offhand what the pin height was with a Revolution so I didn't have to run out to the dealer.

I just bought a 2017 8280, and then bought the truck to tow it! The truck is a 2017 Ram 2500 4x4 with a bed height of 36". I was concerned about towing nose high. While the trailer was being stored at the dealer, I asked the sales guy to measure the ground to plate distance and he said 47". I assumed I'd have to do the Dexter lift.

Called the FR rep at the factory and he said the design drawings had the plate at 49.9". Breathed a sigh of relief. Installed the Curt A16 hitch with Ram OEM 5th wheel prep and the height was right at 15" for a tow height of 51".

Picked up the trailer last week and hooked up the trailer and on a level surface, it was 0.8 deg nose up. Almost level!!!!!

While unhooked on level concreted and the trailer was perfectly level (I have a digital level that will read to .01deg) and the plate height on the trailer was 49.7", almost exactly what the design drawing says.

Bottom line is that I was sweating a lot for nothing! It all worked out in the end. But for about a week I had already researched the Dexter lift kit and priced it out, assuming I'd be doing it.
