OP has a 3/4 ton diesel with a very low payload of 1772# which is in decent 1/2 ton territory these days. The Cummins will pull it easily but it's highly unlikely that he'll be within his GVWR.

Whether or not to do it is an individual's decision. If he proceeds, at least he'll do so knowingly.

My nephew just purchased a 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi and 4:10 gears. His 2018 Ram has more towing and more payload capacity than my 2012 3500 CTD. For the amount that I tow my 36ft Cardinal I wish I had his truck. My 2012 3500 only has 36K on the speedo and if I wouldn't get beaten up so bad on a trade I would do it in a heart beat.

Pretty funny reading this we myself included like to talk numbers from the factory when they suit us. I recently bought a 2018 Ram 1500 with the 3.6 and have over 1800 in payload. Nothing on my truck says heavy duty not the tires not the coil springs in back. My wives Ford Edge has almost 1k payload. Dude you will be more than fine. Yes I just grabbed the flashlight to get the pics. Click image for larger version

But that is just me.
John thanks I understand your concerns. Took the rig out today 150 miles down I-75 and back home on the back roads , wanting to work the brakes in and just get some time in behind the wheel towing. I here people say they don't even know its back there I find that funny I don't care what you are driving. Brake gain is set at 5.5 and provides all the help needed to stop never felt I was being push by the trailer, took it around the neighborhood band did some hard braking from about 30 mph and rig stopped well. The 2019 Ram is well engineered with some nice upgrades. wheel base is 3 inches longer than previous models, suspension upgrade, 6 lug vs 5 lug , with the 8 spd transmission. 3.92 axle and tow package. I feel the tires are the weak point, they at XL load rated 113T 2561 lbs max psi 51, they feel soft to me and will be upgraded first, there are a couple of MICHELIN
DEFENDER LTX M/S that offer LT 118R 3195 lbs E rated 80 psi not the maxed out E at 3750 lbs. I have the Michelin Defender's on my Honda van and like them a lot. So we will stay on flatland here in FL/GA and that should limit our surprises, when my wife retires in a couple of years and we have found we are enjoying the RV experience I will step up to a 3500 and head for the Grand Canyon and the tallest pass we can find. The bias toward 1/2 ton trucks is not just here but industry wide, when I was buying this truck I was told by 2 of the big 3 that to tow any 5th wheel I had to buy a 3/4 ton period no exceptions, I was even told by 2 different hitch installers that I had to have a slider period on a 6.5 bed. When I explained the Turning Point and the wedge and how it moves the pivot back 22 inches they just did not want to hear it. Everyone should buy the truck they want to pull there trailer with and know the numbers and be safe. They also can express there opinion on what and why they would or would not match that truck with that trailer that is where all the fun is here on the forum.

I bought the truck knowing what 5th wheel I was going to get, looked for about a year and both are paid off. If I can't tow this safely and within the numbers, I made a $75+K big mistake.
I have the 2017 model year(which I bought 2 months ago) and the same exact payload...I feel your pain. Thinking of selling it now because of the limited payload capacity.

Sorry to hear that. I'm keeping the setup I have. Works perfectly for me.

We pulled the 2014 version of this trailer with the 2012 version of your tow vehicle. Since the numbers have not changed, I can tell you that it will pull it and do so safely. You will barely know the unit is back there. You will absolutely love the unit as well. Had we not found a deal we could not pass up on a condo on Hatteras Island, NC, DW and I would still be spending our summers on Hatteras Island in our 8280 and loving every minute of it. Did I mention that I really miss the truck. Happy camping!

Take all of your info to the dealer and talk with them. They will be able to explain everything to you about it. I own a 2500 Ram quad cab long bed and I tow a 31 foot forest river Salam with no problem. Remember, you have a jake brake on the diesel.

I have been pulling my 8280 with a 2500 Silverado for three years and never had any problems... most of the time that Chevy don't know it's back there....
Blessings,
Bill

Frank4711,

Nice update. You are single handily causing most of the 3500 diesel dually guys and gals neck pains from them violently shaking their heads back and forth.

Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins Diesel Towing

I have a 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 Crew Cab with a 6.7 Cummins Diesel. I run factory spec LT E rated tires with 80 psi air pressure. I have a 2015 FR Vengeance 5'er toy hauler. It is a double axel trailer and is 39'6" long. I routinely carry an electric golf cart and a motorcycle with me when I travel. My Ram pulls this trailer effortlessly up hill and down. I average 10.8 mpg according to my on board mileage computer. I recommend you run max air pressure in all tires on your TV and your 5'er. I also recommend you get a tire pressure monitoring system for your 5'er. Your Ram already has one and it is a good idea to monitor it too at all times. I use a Tire Minder brand. There are several manufacturers so check them all out. Lastly, my Vengeance was pre-wired for a rear view camera. This is another must for me. It comes in very handy when changing lanes in traffic.
Happy Camping.

Weight question

There is something here that I can't quite grasp' The FCA sticker says the GVWR is 10,000 lbs but the tire and loading sticker says your payload is 1772. This would mean that the curb weight of your truck is over 8000 lbs. I find that is hard to believe for a 2500 truck. Maybe you should check these weights with FCA.

You will be fine while the rear end ( gearing ) might be different the same powerful 6.7 with a great transmission will power your 3/4 or 1 ton Ram tires should probably have same rating as well if manufacturers say the 1500 with v6 has payload of 1900 or Ford Edge 950 Does it make sense that a truck with twice the frame twice the brakes is going to implode if you put 2k in it or even 2.5 K doubt you even know it was there

I have not read all this and I am not a member of the weight police. I did cringe when I read a few of the 3/4's out there towing stuff and bragging about it, but it's your rig.

I will say to weigh your truck and subtract from the gross. You might be surprised....mine is several hundred under the advertised weight. YMMV

FWIW...my 2018 Ram Laramie 6.4 hemi has a payload of 3000 lbs. That Cummins is one heavy engine.
About 1100# dry

I have weighed my 2008, 2500 Dodge Ram Mega Cab truck, 6.7L Cummins and the weight without operator in the truck is 7800 LBS. This is a scaled weight.
