Rear Receiver Hitch for Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S
I have a mobility scooter that weighs 275 lb. I would like to attach a hitch cargo carrier with ramp to the rear of my 2015 Mini Lite 2109S to carry my scooter. I know that attaching anything that heavy to the 4" bumper would be a mistake.
Has anyone attached a receiver hitch to the rear frame of their Rockwood Mini Lite and if so, how? .... and how has it worked out? Any towing problems, etc ?
Did you have it welded to the frame or use one of the universal/adjustable hitches that bolt to the frame (DIY) - if so, which one did you use.
Any information, including links, pictures, lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.
Wife and I love our Mini Lite 2109S. It is perfect size for the two of use and has all the features of the bigger rigs. Headed to the smokies in two weeks to see Fall colors.

We had the Flagstaff twin to your 2109S and loved it. But I wouldn't advise adding 275 lb to the aft end, as it would be likely to reduce your tongue weight and introduce excessive sway.

I have the flagstaff version of the same camper. Its a great camper and we love ours, but the bumper is not able to handle that type of weight.
If you weld a receiver to the frame, you will void your warranty.

Frame isn't designed for that kind of weight either.
Professional welder or not.

Will the scooter fit in the back of your Tacoma? Maybe you can move whatever you carry in the truck bed to inside the camper?

Agreed on several of the comments above... What voids the warranty is what is called "Altercation to the frame", and this comes from Lippert, not Rockwood/FR. The extra weight on that short of unit, will cause a drastic change in the hitch weight, which will cause the Rockwood to sway all over at speeds increase. A thought on what to do is explore a hitch extension from your tow vehicle, such as done in pick up campers. There are kits available to extend the receiver hitch back with safety chains back to the side of the tow vehicle hitch for stability... Then possible to have something produced to hold your scooter.... (if only I could draw a picture in message)

One of the main concerns with attaching anything to the back bumper is the constant whipping motion of up, down and side ways that happens when running on rough or rolly-pollie roads. Anything attached to the bumper, or extended beyond the rear end will be sitting on the pavement if not firmly attached to the frame!

The frame on a "light" trailer is well giving it to much credit.
Lite and ultra lite frames are tin grade metal and welded together to resemble an I beam.
The frame is no heavier than the bumper and should never be used to carry a load outside of the camper itself.
Period.

Adding that much weight aft of the rear axle will cause you tremendous towing problems as has been mentioned above. You will develop an uncontrollable sway and it could be very dangerous. I would concentrate on finding a way to put that puppy in the truck.

I've seen attachments on the front of trucks that carried everything from bicycles to motorcycles...you many want to research that!! (They attach to the front bumper, somehow.)
I found one called "Hidden Hitch" and will post a picture for you.

Only for a short distance, once it falls off and takes the bumper with it, the weight will be back on the hitch and someone will have to dodge the junk on the highway and hopefully be able to miss it.

Heck, just putting a bike rack on the rear bumper will void the chassis warranty, let alone a 275lb scooter!

have you thought about putting a receiver hitch on the front of your TV may take a little getting used to but thats an option
