Rockwood 2703WS Boondock Water Refill

I have been thinking about how to refill my FW tank when I am not hooked to city lines and I think I cracked the code.

I have a blue 5 gal container and I cut a piece of hose about 5 ft long. I connect the threaded portion to my winterizing port on the outside of the camper and put the other end in the container. I then turn the winterizing valve to open.

I take the external shower and remove the shower head. I cut a short two foot section of hose and push the shower hose into the end of the cut hose. It's tight and water tight. The end of the cut hose now reaches the FW tank fill port. I turn on the pump and it pumps out the blue tank through the house filter into the FW tank!!!

It works!!!

That will work as long as there is enough water in the lines for the pump to move through the shower to the FW tank. As soon as there is air in there (if you ran it dry) it will stop drawing from the supplemental tank.

Still it is a great idea for boondockers. I could easily see formalizing that process path in the plumbing cubby of my 2506S with a valve or two to engage the path.

It would also be a neat project for some 24V water valves and an arduino controller and a tablet. Thanks for destroying any free time I may have for the next couple of months

To be clear it's not a "supplemental tank". It's just a way to refill my freshwater tank. What you are talking about is a level of complexity light years above my pay grade but I want you with me when stuff breaks!!!

We have a 15 gallon tank with a pump from Harbor Frieght and run it off the truck or rv battery. Just pumps from the back of the truck into the fresh water tank. Two trips and we're full. I think the pump is 1 gpm.

I do the same as the OP. I got rid of the outside shower head a long time ago and replaced it with a garden hose nozzle. I just unscrew the nozzle, screw on the 25 foot fill hose (fresh water fill is in front, shower is in the rear of the unit). Then move the valve and hook up another short hose to the antifreeze port, sticking the other end of the hose into a 5 gallon water bottle. Turn the pump on and viola fill up or at least top off the fresh tank. Jay

I realize this. Someone suggested it on another thread but since most models have differences I wanted to try it. It works for the 2703WS and now I have an option.

I have 4 5.5 gal plastic jugs with a large funnel in the cap.

Takes no time at all to dump in the FW fill port.

Takes longer to fill em at the spigot...

Last campground we were at, the guy behind us had about 5 people with him in a big 30 foot TT. He only had like 2 bulk mayonaise jars and kept walking back and forth to the spigot for water, and dumped it in his FW port with a funnel.

I asked if he wanted to use my jugs to fill it up with one trip, but he said no, doing it his way kept him busy... ?!

He was funny to watch!
