Rockwood 8289WS: Nowhere to put a satellite receiver

I have been seriously thinking about buying the Rockwood 8289WS fifth wheel. I like just about everything about it. However, after reading about some other Rockwood campers not having a place to put a satellite receiver, I decided to go back to the dealer and look closely at the 8289WS. Sure enough, there is no place to put a satellite receiver! What was Forest River thinking? Unless I can find some way to mount a receiver, this will be a deal breaker for me. Anybody got a solution? Thanks, guys.

I assume the area behind the TV is dead space. My guess is you could cut open the rectangular area below the radio/above the fireplace and install a shelf there. IMO, kind of dumb that they don't already.

It'd be a hassle to work and fish the wires, but should be doable.

As ependydad stated you should be able to modify the shelf under the TV, but you should be able to access the space behind the fireplace via the outside storage compartment.

The 2013 model year of my 8289WS the shelfs where much larger, we had 2. I put it on the top one. As mentioned pull out the saw and modify away! It is the first thing you can mod.

Watch out for tire wear from sagging axles and delamination at fridge opening, caused by rain entering the top vent and running inside the wall.

My receiver is too deep for the depth of the cabinet. So my solution was to mount it above the TV. A 3/4" wide metal strap near the front secured to the cabinet frame and two right angle brackets at the back. So the receiver sticks out several inches beyond the front of the cabinet but since it is close to the ceiling, it isn't an issue.

Had this exact model. Watch your slides. We always had trouble with the kitchen slide. Always getting stuck. Also not insullated well at all. We nearly burned up in ours un the summer. If you buy make sure you get 2 AC regardless how small the unit is. Couldn't wait to trade it

No place to put satellite receiver.

I have a 8310 as and a large dvr. I put a temporary table by tv. ie, tv tray then when we move take it down and disconnect it.

I’ve got the 2703WS but you will regret it if you don’t get the 2 A/C option.

I was also worried about water infiltration around the upper fridge vent. FR sealed the lower vent frame but not the upper. I did it myself.

The solution in this thread may work in the 8289WS.

Our 2013 8289Ws was ordered without the fireplace. We have a bunch of cabinets there instead (and I wouldn't have it any other way). I pulled the worthless iRV radio out, modified the cabinets a little, and installed a regular home stereo surround sound receiver. I have spent more time enjoying this mod than any other (we love to camp off season and are rarely "off grid").

Green Imp- so what kind of receiver did you go with? New speakers? Our RV has plenty of space in between the TV and the fireplace for our satellite receiver and lots of room left over.

The receiver I installed is an Onkyo TX SR606. It's overkill for the job but it's what I had laying around. I'm pretty sure any standard home surround sound receiver would likely work just as well.

I kept the factory ceiling speakers but swapped out the (so called) subwoofer for a Bose "Acoustimass Bass Module" (two speaker non-powered version). This speaker is still hidden away inside the cabinetry just like the original. The setup sounds nearly as good as our system at home other than the staging (due to the positioning of the seats/speakers).

The impedance of the Rockwood's factory speakers is different than the standard home speakers the Onkyo was designed for. I was concerned about this when planning the setup and had picked out some 8 ohm ceiling speakers just in case. I tried the system out with the factory ceiling speakers first though and have left it this way for 4 or 5 years now without issue.

I made a small shelf to side beside DW's rocker. It folds up and down and locks in place. You could do the same near your TV and simply store the receiver when it is not set up.
