Yes, I got the factory puck system. I'm using a Curt A16 with the curt wedge. Works very well with revolution pin box.

Your truck color looks great with your trailer. How are you liking yours.

We are heading south first week of Jan. For 3 to 4 months. It'll be a great chance to get to know the unit.

Can someone tell me the brand of slide toppers that are on these 5ers in the pictures? I want to add them to mine and wanted to see the brand you guys have.

Both trailers look beautiful BTW.

that is a beautiful unit and i love the paint & decal scheme.

the original question was about experience of ownership & then someone asked about stabilization.

OWNERSHIP:
we own an 8289WS Diamond pkg.
we love everything about it.

STABLIZATION:a couple of weeks ago we experienced our first really uneven site by 6inches.
as you can imagine we had it really lifted on one side. that gave a real sense of movement which we had not experienced before.
we had our camper on stackable blocks, tires chocked and additional x-chocks.
it wasn't terrible or anything like that but absolutely moved more than we had every experienced.
i just came home an ordered a set of Anderson (7") self-leveling roll-on blocks.
I think this should have us ready for the next adventure.

How do slide toppers do in the wind? Pulling awnings in on windy days is not a problem, but pulling in the slides is not an option.

Noisy. Most folks use some kind of device to reduce the flapping.

Saved about ten grand over local dealer.

TV is 2017 F250 CC SB 6.7. Trailer hauls superbly. Drove most of way back about 60 and hit 75 a few times. Hardly know it's back there. Virtually no sway with passing trucks. 1150 miles including 300 to 400 thru small mountains up to 1000 ft elevation and averaged 11.5 mpg.

Trailer was well prepared by dealer and they did a great PDI.

It's an 2018.5 and has several new features. WiFi booster, washer dryer prep, morryde step above entry steps with strut, new style front cap and graphics, e rated tires and higher gross weight (11600). Bedroom closet and dresser changes allowing larger emergency exit window in bedroom.

We love the layout and are very happy with the new changes. We weren't expecting most of them. So far see nothing that is a problem. Spent 2 nights in trailer on way back with temps to minus 7 C.
Congrats on your new Rockwood.

Since I live in the Toronto area I’m curious which dealer you bought your trailer from. Sounds like you are happy with them.

Curious where everybody mounts the Toilet paper holder in the 8299bs. And then the towel bar?

Yes, they went out of their way to meet my needs. My salesman is David. I had a very tight schedule coming from Halifax, PDI trailer and return in 3.5 days. They made it work. I special ordered the unit and they worked nicely with me to get what I wanted.

I mounted TP holder on back of hallway door at appropriate height and mounted two hooks high on door for bathrobes.
Mounted towel bar on hall wall above toilet. There's not a lot of other places to choose from.

Thanks. I’ve been there a few times. They really need to move to a larger location. They have everything packed in really tight where they are. I’ve had work done there once. The work was fine although I had to take it back to correct a couple things. The bigger problem was that their communications were poor. Very difficult to got a hold of anyone that can give you an update, and not the friendliest either.

Hopefully you have a local dealer or RV repair shop if you need service. Folks here report that FR is quite helpful finding a local place to get your rig serviced.

Just had a wind and rain storm with 50mph wind gusts. Three slides with toppers and everything is fine.

We have had our 2017 8299bs since June. First let me say We have been RV-ears for almost a decade and it is our favorite floor plan ever. We also love anything forest river...they seem to be really good units. We did run into some trouble with this unit though. We just got it back from the shop and are about to go out camping in it to test out all the things we had done. When we took it in, we thought it was for some fairly minor things, re-calibrate the auto level....a door needed a slight adjustment and a rock had gotten under the slide and made a small tear in the linoleum. Nothing abnormal to RV ownership. But when we were driving it in to the shop....on the highway at 60mph...the slides started to tip out at the top...by about a foot or foot and a half. It was a scary experience and it turns out the slides have 6 bolts meant for keeping the slides at an appropriate pitch, left/right, front/back and top/bottom. Ours was not adjusted to keep the slide tilted inward at the top. This is necessary for gravity to keep it from tipping out. It all sounds crazy, and it is. We had only camped in it twice before this was discovered. It appears fixed now and we are quite pleased so far.

Now for the second issue...the slides have a slide plate on the bottom which is meant to guard interior floors from the staples, screws, nails, bolts on the underside of the slide. Our “rock” that we thought tore the floor turned out to be a slide plate was not aligned correctly and those parts on the bottom of the slide were tearing away at our kitchen floor. They had to take out the slides, adjust the plate and replace all of our linoleum.

As I mentioned we are about to take it out and test everything post-repair-visit to be sure we are happy. But I must offer that when I reviewed the repairs at the shop, I immediately realized the difference. The slides sat in place better, I had been tripping over the threshold and didn’t realize that could mean the slides weren’t properly aligned. Now they fit snug and flush. They had a hard road to rebuild my confidence that this was a safe vehicle and so far they have done well. I am glad because it’s an amazingly perfect floor plan for us. More to come after we camp this weekend.

To prospective buyers I would say.... walk the interior of your unit before you buy, test those thresholds when the slides are out, move them in and out see how well they slide and rest in their final in/out positions. While they are out, have the dealer show you the slide plates and adjustment bolts under the slides. Specifically ask them to ensure those adjustment bolts are checked and positioned appropriately.

The dealer has treated us well. We will give this another shot since we Are so attached to the layout.

Our slide adjustments worked out fantastically!

How do you like your F250? How does it pull that 8299BS.
I just got a 2017 F250 with 6.7 power stroke, but haven't been able to tow my 5th wheel yet.

I've had many trucks over the years. Fords, GM, and Chevrolet, 1/2 ton, 3/4, 1 ton single and dually. I've put 4000 miles on this truck in 4 weeks with 1200 hauling trailer. I like it better than anything previous. It has tons of power and hauls 8299bs with little effort. It has 2900 lbs cc capacity and a huge back seat. Trailer handles well on the flat and in small mountains. Love the exhaust brake.

Great to hear! Just traded my 2013 f150 ecoboost for this Super Duty! I can't wait hookup to my Rockwood in the spring!

Adding Tadi Brothers rear view wireless backup camera with two sideview cameras and a 7" split screen monitor.

Any ideas where to locate trailer side cameras for best effect.

Going to mount rear camera below Furrion camera mount for easy access to power.

Anybody else using Tadi Brothers
System.

Ray at Love Your RV did 3 videos on the Tadi Brothers Rearview Camera. Here is the first one on his installation. He did reviews at one month and 6 months, too.

Be careful of the castle rock tires, I have a 2016 with less than 5,000 mile and on our way to Florida this month had 3 blow outs in two days
