Rockwood 8299bs

Interested in purchasing a new Rockwood 5th wheel 8299bs. Has anyone else purchased a 2017 or a 2018 and are they happy with it. And what are your complaints if there are any and not necessarily about the dealerships. Thanks

We purchased our 2018 8299BS five weeks ago and it arrived last week. We take delivery on 11//1/2017 and will be doing our first outing this weekend. I'll update afterwards.

Sparks Nevada. hope your trip goes well. We're wheeling and dealing at our local dealership this weekend it should be interesting to see what kind of prices they can come up with. We are interested in getting the extra air conditioner slash heater in the front bedroom with the 15000 BTU upgrade in the rear. And the leveling system . What's the word on them?

I live in sparks as well and looking at getting the 8299bs. I've walked in it, but the wife has not yet. The Carson dealer has not had one on lot for over a month and none on order. May have to drive to Turlock Ca.
Love the floor plan. The Lazy boys in back with big window was one of our main wants. Bedroom we can stand up in and walk around the bed was another. The double door fridge caught wife's attention. Seems to have plenty of storage.
The auto stabilizing jacks was a must for me. With a 6' bed the Revolution Reese hitch will provide me comfort level in tight situations. Plan on ordering by end of year.
Let me know how you like it.

Absolutely go for the AC upgrade. You'll be crying in your beer if you don't, especially where you live.

Do the stabilizers in between the wheels help much for movement? I’ve seen them on a few around the camp ground but wasn’t sure if it was worth the investment to get them.

They made a huge difference on our previous 27' travel trailer. I cant speak for the fifth wheel because I installed them immediately because I had them.

We have had our 2017 8299bs since June. First let me say We have been RV-ears for almost a decade and it is our favorite floor plan ever. We also love anything forest river...they seem to be really good units. We did run into some trouble with this unit though. We just got it back from the shop and are about to go out camping in it to test out all the things we had done. When we took it in, we thought it was for some fairly minor things, re-calibrate the auto level....a door needed a slight adjustment and a rock had gotten under the slide and made a small tear in the linoleum. Nothing abnormal to RV ownership. But when we were driving it in to the shop....on the highway at 60mph...the slides started to tip out at the top...by about a foot or foot and a half. It was a scary experience and it turns out the slides have 6 bolts meant for keeping the slides at an appropriate pitch, left/right, front/back and top/bottom. Ours was not adjusted to keep the slide tilted inward at the top. This is necessary for gravity to keep it from tipping out. It all sounds crazy, and it is. We had only camped in it twice before this was discovered. It appears fixed now and we are quite pleased so far.

Now for the second issue...the slides have a slide plate on the bottom which is meant to guard interior floors from the staples, screws, nails, bolts on the underside of the slide. Our “rock” that we thought tore the floor turned out to be a slide plate was not aligned correctly and those parts on the bottom of the slide were tearing away at our kitchen floor. They had to take out the slides, adjust the plate and replace all of our linoleum.

As I mentioned we are about to take it out and test everything post-repair-visit to be sure we are happy. But I must offer that when I reviewed the repairs at the shop, I immediately realized the difference. The slides sat in place better, I had been tripping over the threshold and didn’t realize that could mean the slides weren’t properly aligned. Now they fit snug and flush. They had a hard road to rebuild my confidence that this was a safe vehicle and so far they have done well. I am glad because it’s an amazingly perfect floor plan for us. More to come after we camp this weekend.

To prospective buyers I would say.... walk the interior of your unit before you buy, test those thresholds when the slides are out, move them in and out see how well they slide and rest in their final in/out positions. While they are out, have the dealer show you the slide plates and adjustment bolts under the slides. Specifically ask them to ensure those adjustment bolts are checked and positioned appropriately.

The dealer has treated us well. We will give this another shot since we Are so attached to the layout.

Glad you enjoyed your first trip. You are really going to like this rig.
We've had the Flagstaff sister 8529IKBS just two years now.
We bought when this model first came out. It's one of the best floor plans we've ever owned. Our has been a great unit.

No major problems in the first two years except this past summer we had to replace the Castle Rock tires. I wanted to get two seasons out of the factory tires but didn't make it. We chose the GY Endurance.

We only get about 6-7 months to our camping season here in the mountains of Western PA. Hope to soon be in a position to extend that.

ENJOY!

HI all. I just picked up my 8299bs in Toronto and hauled it 1150 miles back to Halifax N.S.

Saved about ten grand over local dealer.

TV is 2017 F250 CC SB 6.7. Trailer hauls superbly. Drove most of way back about 60 and hit 75 a few times. Hardly know it's back there. Virtually no sway with passing trucks. 1150 miles including 300 to 400 thru small mountains up to 1000 ft elevation and averaged 11.5 mpg.

Trailer was well prepared by dealer and they did a great PDI.

It's an 2018.5 and has several new features. WiFi booster, washer dryer prep, morryde step above entry steps with strut, new style front cap and graphics, e rated tires and higher gross weight (11600). Bedroom closet and dresser changes allowing larger emergency exit window in bedroom.

We love the layout and are very happy with the new changes. We weren't expecting most of them. So far see nothing that is a problem. Spent 2 nights in trailer on way back with temps to minus 7 C.

I more than likely will be traveling 3 hours to pick mine up as it will save me 4K.
Just watched a YouTube video of the 2018.5 8299bs and the sales manager, who had made the video, mentioned all the new upgrades you mentioned. I'm glad I have dragged my feet as they are all huge upgrades and has more than convinced my wife and I that this is a better buy than the Reflection 337 (at 10k more). The only thing I didn't like was the bedroom dresser has been reduced to four drawers from the six I had seen on previous models.
Can anyone tell me about the hanger rod in closet. It looks like it is too far back and too close to the shelves behind it. Does the hanger bar allow clothing to hang freely?
Thank you,
Andy

The dresser has been reduced to 4 drawers but they are deeper than the 6 drawer unit. The space on bottom allows for room for water lines and drain from washer/dryer if you choose that option.

Two drawers have been added to bottom of left side of closet. Above them is shelf space behind doors and hanger space above. Shelf can be removed to hang longer items.

The front cap is now more curved and protrudes further forward allowing more space in closet. More shelf space at back of closet and space for washer/dryer on right of closet.

Hello BfishSfish,
I'm curious if you purchased a 8299bs a few weeks back? I also live in Sparks NV and have been dealing with the Carson city guys (Michael Houl rv).
Thanks Andy
