Unhappy Rockwood delivery delays - 2507s

My wife and I ordered a 2507s on July 8th from a dealer in western NY. We were told that it would be approximately 8 to 10 weeks before we would get it. That would be perfect as we were planning a time critical trip in the middle of October. We were so excited!!

However, we were just told today that it won't be coming off the line until October 20 (plus delivery which could be up to 3 weeks). So now we are at 15 to 18 weeks after we placed our order!! Now we are really sad and frustrated.

My question is "does anyone have any suggestions that might help us get the trailer sooner?" We are really in a bind and would appreciate any ideas. Are others experiencing the same types of delays?, ie 15 weeks?

Thanks!

With the backlog of orders, due to Covid and the incredible sales numbers, can't suggest anything. It's just how things are, in the current environment. The only option would be to buy something on the dealer lot.

Are you allowed to pick up at the factory? That would at least save the 3 weeks of delivery time.

X2.............. 8-10 weeks was in good normal times. You will probably be lucky to get it a month after it is built due to transportation issues (backlogs). That would be if there are no part supply issues. I would not be surprised if you see it before the 1st of the year. With COVID that is true of car manufacturers as well.

Usually no, too much liability.

Also, the dealer puts on some finishing touches, like installing batteries and propane. I am sure that the factory won’t do a PDI with you either. Dealers perform important functions in the process of builders getting RVs to buyers.

The only way to get an RV fast is off the lot—if you can find one that meets your needs on the lot.

It is what it is. Industry saw another 130-160% sales increase this year and you'll have to wait like the thousands before you.

If dealer inventories are like they are here in the Midwest, you would be lucky to find anything close to what you want on a lot right now. Since the factories all shut down early spring due to covid-19, all the brands are super backlogged on orders. Sucks, but I think you just need to be patient.

Knowing when it is scheduled to come off the line is a long way, unfortunately, from delivery date to your dealer. I don't even think they try to line up a carrier until it is actually off the assembly line, so at the mercy of the transportation to get it to you, which might be a REALLY long wait. Not sure I would opt to pick it up at the factory unless a detailed PDI is possible and assuming you need no adjustments to your WDH.

We bought ours long before COVID and had the same situation as you - paid for it in late June special order.... planning the first trip in October. Didn't happen. Time ticks by at every juncture. Assembly line delays. Summer closures. Watiing for transportation. Then even after it got to the dealer lot, it sat there waiting its turn for detailing. Then sat there waiting its turn for PDI. And only then was I able to pick it up. I tried everything I could think of to speed things up in order to make that first trip when we wanted to go. Maybe got a day or so shaved off, since I know my salesperson came in on their scheduled day off to be there for my PDI when she could have scheduled it the next day. But otherwise, nada.

Rental?

See if the dealer has a like size tradein on their lot you could take. It might be a few hundred bucks and some insurance and you could save a trip

It certainly doesn't speak well for either the dealer or the brand that in July, when Covid was already well-underway, that the dealer would still happily take the OP's money and promise an 8-10 week delivery time, then be unconcerned when the reality stretches to 15-18 weeks. We certainly do live in an era of "buyer beware."

The dealer likely quoted you the ‘typical’ manufacture / delivery schedule from Previous years. Sales have skyrocketed this year. A dealer in Ontario was interviewed by a news reporter. That dealer sold 40 rigs, in one weekend! This is abpretty good indication of sales this year.
Nice looking rig! It’s very unfortunate that you were caught in the middle. Hope it works out for you.

There’s probably no way to have it built earlier. If the dealer is willing to go pick it up themselves once its built, that might be the only time savings you’d be able to get but they’ll still have to schedule it for their inspection and prep time.

We actually had a 2526s on order and cancelled it. We kept searching and found a 2507s yesterday on a lot 2 hours from home. The only thing we need added is the slide topper. And they said that could take a month or more yo get in. So even being on the lot doesn’t mean immediate delivery. We will just be happy to camp in April.
