Rockwood Geo Pro 14FK - surge protector and other random electrical questions

Hello. I should probably buy a surge protector for my trailer for when I am connected to 30 amp shore power. Any recommendations? Also, I'm a total newbie and am not exactly an electrical engineer. I don't have a fundamental grasp of electrical circuits. I have no clue what an inverter is, how batteries work, etc. There is apparently a true sine wave inverter somewhere in my trailer because I have the manual for it. I'll be darned if I know what it does or where it is in the unit. Is there a 'trailer electrical systems for idiots' manual/website? I have two batteries, but cannot find any information on them online. All I know is they are "Centurian" (note the spelling) Deep cycle batteries. I appreciate any help/guidance!
