Rockwood Signature 8262RBS

We sold our 2016 MBS2400R and going back to a travel trailer. We grew tired of stepping over our 82# GSD and when we recently added a new GSD puppy we knew more floor space was needed. What we decided on is new for 2022 and not yet at the dealer, but should be soon. The total length is 29'11" with a floor plan that will suit our needs. I am curious if there are any of these units out there and how they are working out.

I don't have your rig, but I looked at the plans and specs. It looks like a great floor plan. It's got well defined areas for bedroom, kitchen, livingroom and bath. Good cargo capacity, large grey water capacity, and all in a less than 30' trailer.
How old is the puppy?

We have a 2022 Flagstaff 826RBS, which is the sister to your Rockwood (Same layout). We have been full time RVing for the past 2 months with this floor plan and we are loving it! Plenty of space for my wife and I plus our 75 pound Golden Retriever. Very glad we went with a model with a large bedroom and large bathroom. It is a very comfortable amount of space for being under 30ft. The only issues we have ran into so far is the AC seems to be a little weak (15k Coleman Mach) when in direct sunlight and 90+ degrees. I removed the inside cover and diverted the airflow directly into the air ducts using some foam insulation board and HVAC foil tape and that probably doubled our output, but still not as cold as i would like it to get. We also found that a lot of the cabinetry hinge screws were stripped and wouldn’t get tight. I bought oversized screws to fix that. Other than those things, this has been a great RV for full time living. I do with it came with an owners manual though! Good luck to you, I hope you enjoy yours!

May I ask what tow vehicle people are using to pull the 8262? I too am looking at this trailer and am curious what the tow experience is. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I tow the camper with a 1 ton dually because I also tow equipment, so my experience may not be representative of what you would get with a smaller truck. I have pulled the new camper 2000 miles so far with no issues. As long as your truck is rated for and equipped to tow the camper GVWR, I am sure you will find it tows quite well. The independent torsion suspension is great. My particular unit GVWR is 10,060#.

My DW and I have been considering downsizing in the next couple of years and the Rockwood Signature 8262RBS is on my list. I like the bed slide and the rear bathroom. Just not sure about losing the pass through storage. There’s a Mini Lite 2511S with a similar floor plan but it lacks the counter space and bed slide you get with this Signature model although it does have a good size pass through. One other difference from a maintenance perspective is with the Signature you get the Nautilus water management panel but with the Mini Lite you have to access the water heater valves by removing a drawer in the kitchen.

I think a 3/4 ton would be a minimum requirement for the Signature 8262RBS since you’ll probably be above 8500# when fully loaded.

The trailer weight is less consequential than the payload ,requirement of your tow vehicle. That is what you should calculate and consider. Loaded tongue weight (not dry weight), hitch, passengers, cargo in tow vehicle, etc.

I agree with Acadianbob’s statement about payload being the first spec to be concerned about.

Hexnut and Splithead350x, have weighed your TT to find out your loaded tongue weight?

My husband and I have purchased the 8262rbs and trying to figure out the best wdh for our new camper. We do not have possession of it yet bc we are waiting for my husbands new truck to come in. In the meantime, we are trying to decide and really wanted to get the Anderson WDH as it looks the easiest for me to handle (weight, etc) in the long run, but I’m afraid after calculating weights (theoretically at this point) we will be very close to 1400lbs which is the limit for their model. What are you using for a wdh or do you have suggestions? We never owned a trailer before, only class c and a super c, so I have no experience with a wdh and would like something as user friendly as possible. Also, I’m only 5’2” so handling the lightest weight possible would be a bonus! Thanks for any responses!

I hope you are getting a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. The fictional dry tongue weight is 1260lbs.
Once you add the weights of batteries, factory options, dealer add-ons, water and trailer cargo, the real world tongue weight will be over 1400lbs.

Yes my husband ordered a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500. The payload is supposed to be about 4100lbs but we are waiting until it comes in to verify actual numbers. By my calculations I was figuring the tongue weight to be close to or right over 1400lbs so that’s why I was asking for opinions on wdh from people with experience😊 since I have none! Any recommendations for something that would be more user friendly? I’m trying to keep it as simple a set up as possible since I will be using it by myself occasionally.

I would look at the Equal-i-zer 4 point hitch or the Weigh-Safe hitch. If you will be towing in high wind areas like the Midwest prairies, or if you have back issues and can’t lift the heavy bars, you can look at the very expensive ProPride. Personally, I would not use the Andersen WDH for such a heavy tongue weight.

Another vote for Equalizer 4 point. I pull a 34' TT with a Ram 2500 and it works great!
