It takes at least 3 minutes for it to boot up.

Also been doing some research and it could be a bad unit. If so they will replace.

They did return my call when I had issues connecting when I first got mine. Hopefully they will be good replacing yours. I'd make them send you a tube of sealant too if you do it yourself and don't want to go through the PITA of taking it to dealer. Good luck. I was disappointed to find out it only works on the slower WiFi 2.4 GHz frequency, not the high speed ac Wifi. Better than nothing I guess. Most campgrounds only do 2.4 anyway.

Cool. Do you have to pull the unit off the roof and seal it back into place?

No you remove cover and install new board just remove screws and install new one. I watched video on YouTube it takes about 15 to 20 minutes .Pretty easy to do, no resealing to do.

For those with the Sky3, WifiRanger also offers an upgrade kit to upgrade to the Sky4. Its the replacement board and cover with 2 antennas. I don’t know if its worth it but it is an option.

All that does as far as I'm aware is add cellular capability, but you have to get a SIM and pay for the cellular plan. If you have a phone, don't see how it's worth it.

Kris, I think you're probably right.

Its hard to know exactly what the Sky4 specs are compared to the Sky3. If you go to WiFiRanger's website they only provide specs on the aftermarket Sky2 Pack and SkyPro Pack. TheSky2 looks like the Sky3 with a single aerial and the SkyPro looks like the Sky4 with 2 aerials. The SkyPro has a better range than the Sky2 and both offer 5.8 GHz indoor but not outdoor. However, a recent video by Chris and Cherie of the Mobile Internet Resource Center suggests that the lowest level of WiFiRanger's new Converge line is the same as the Sky4 with only 2.4 GHz so there's likely not much advantage in upgrading from Sky3 to Sky4 unless you want to add a SIM card and use cellular.

The problem is that the weakest link would be the campground's WiFi service and they are rarely fast.

From a Google search, I've read that 2.4 GHz is less directional than 5.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz radio waves will go around and through objects a bit better than 5.8 GHz. So that might be part of WiFiRanger's reasoning for not offering 5.8 GHz outdoors in their OEM offerings. It may also be partly because typical campground WiFi is only 2.4 GHz and doesn't offer the 802.11ac networking standard.

Their interface software does have range function which they say allows you to select from either the connection that can provide the fastest download speed, or the one with the strongest signal, or the first one in your list.

WiFiRanger apparently has 5.8 GHz and 802.11ac in some of their aftermarket products so its probably just that FR decided to provide only the most basic product as their standard. It's not great but its better than nothing.

I think, ultimately, if you want fast and secure mobile internet, you have to go cellular and the Sky4 isn't the best option for that. You're best option for cellular is to use a mobile hotspot and possibly an external booster antenna.

itat, agree with everything you wrote, but I have no problem at home with 5.8Ghz reaching everywhere in my colonial home. So a 5.8 in an RV would easily reach in the area right outside the camper where you might use it, if it were available. The Netgear router is upstairs at home, so I get good reach. Once I get outside, it starts to fall off and 2.4 takes over and reaches over all of my 2 acre lot. I think it's just a price issue. A dual band router costs more, and they are not going to put the higher end unit in as a standard feature.

Then again, you're not going to get 5.8 in a campground anyway, so moot point.

My first real WiFi workout in the camper. I am at Otter Lake in the Poconos, and am pleased they have good strong Wifi. So using their 2.4Ghz band and my WiFi Ranger, I had no problems using my Echo Dot and having Alexa stream music. Also no problem using my new Fire Stick on the TV which I used to watch a little Trailer Park Boys in bed right before turning in. I'd say the nicest thing about the Ranger is all my devices remember that last Ranger log-in, so all you need to do is connect the Ranger to the location's WiFi network and you're done.
