Rockwood Water issues in Slide trim or SKIS

I just found rot and water intrusion in the plywood floor at the outside edges of all 3 of our 2014 windjammer slides. The culprit is the outside trim or "SKI". Mine are .060 abs with a pebble finish and almost paper thin, very brittle & letting in loads of water. They have shattered and split from use and the weight of the slide.
I looked at the 2017 + Rockwoods and the trim is thicker
Has anyone dealt with this? What are they like to change? My dealer says there is a new thicker polyethelyne version but is not sure how to order it...
I hope to get part numbers from him soon.

Slider "cap trim"

I just replaced two of them on our 2015 Rockwood 5th Wheel WS8289. Dealer said not under warranty. Ordered direct from dealer (part #10-05171A). Come in one length for ours and the slider I did was the shorter in width one. The parts are 2-1/2" x x43". Two person job. I ended up opening slider almost all the way open. Jacking up the outside (one side at a time) and just enough to take weight off the plastic piece the trim rides on. The used a crowbar to lift the inside up while the other person removed the damaged one and slid new one in place. Had to fit it a few times as we had to cut it to the correct length. It has double stick tape on the long leg. The short leg is held in place by the bolted trim piece you had to remove. Took abut 1-1/2 hours to do both sides of the one slider.

Slider Cap trim update ~ 2014 Windjammer

i just replaced the Cap trim or "skis" as my dealer calls them on all three slides on my 2014 Windjammer. All were broken or split somewhere and there is significant rot at all edges of the slides just under the cap trim. Not a pretty sight. I doubt the new trim I got from the dealer will keep water out either. It looks like a poor design.
Has anyone had moisture issues resolved by replacing the cap trim or looked under their slides to see if they have this issue?

I would remove that metal trim piece and install a 4" piece of black Eternabond to wrap from the side over the bottom of the slide.
Reinstall the skis.
I would then reinstall that metal trim over the skis and eternabond.
Seal the top edge of the metal with Geocel proflex.
Sealed forever.

Thanks Sounds like a good way to stop the water intrusion. The current metal trim/butyl tape did nothing to keep water off the edge of the plywood. The double sided tape on the side of the ski may be making matters worse by holding in more water than it keeps out.

No problem, glad to help.
It will be a PITA to get the metal trim off, with a combination of half retracted slide to get at that last screw. It might be easier to cut the Eternabond at 1/2 the slide depth and install the first piece from the inside, ( or just the piece that will be buried behind the slide seals when extended) extend the slide and install the second piece.
Definitely buy the metal roller to smash the eternabond real good.
Thoroughly clean the slide box prior to Eternabond installation.
Keep us posted.

What did you guys do about filling in the gap from the rottened plywood that fell off? I am in the middle of doing this to the slides on my FW as well.

Rotten Plywood and new Skis

This is a tough area to keep dry and it looked bad but the rot on our 3 year old camper was just under the old skis and not too deep. I am sure it was leaking from Day 1 as it left the factory. If the water keeps coming in then the edges will all rot out...I just slid the new skis in with lots of sealant and am hoping the water will stay out for awhile. Our old skis were brittle and had holes everywhere. The new ones are much tougher. I wish I had added a layer of eternabond but missed that suggestion. The slide may be alright as the weight should shift to the good portion of the flooring if the edges keep getting soft. The bottom plywood should really be pressure treated so when water gets in through the flashing the rot won't be such a big deal...Another PITA detail with out a good way to address the issue until you remove the offending flooring and start over.
