Towing Truck

Folks, just took possession of my new 2706ws and will go on first trip next weekend. I have a Ram 1500 that I will tow it with, and this trailer is on the upper end of towing specs. I知 about to get a new truck but am forced by employer to stay with 1/2 ton. No complaints but can anyone tell me which manufacturer sells the best 1/2 tin strictly for towing. Weight of trailer is 6900 lbs as it rolled off of the manufacturing floor. My Ram seems to have a good amount of sag in the tail end of the bed.
I would appreciate any feedback.
Will be buying 2018 truck.

Towing Truck

You should be fine. I originally thought the trailer you got was a fifth wheel. Get a good weight distribution hitch that should help the sag.

What gears are in the ram?

I知 not sure about the gears.
And yes, I got a good hitch with Seay bars and weight distribution. Are chevys or fords any better?

since the price difference isn't much, maybe you can sweet talk your boss into a 3/4 ton, and tell him how much easier it will be on HIS truck when you are towing

My new 2017 Ford f150 has the 3.5L Ecoboost, 3.55 rearend, 10 spd xmsn, and max tow package. "Rated tow capacity" is 12,300 lbs although I don’t think I’d like to push it that hard. For that I’d want to go back to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

Since I haven’t towed with the new truck, I can’t claim first hand experience about how it will actually be.

I recently spent time researching for a new 1/2 ton to tow my bigger and heavier TT.
After 6 months of looking at every brand of 1/2 ton out there, I decided on a Ford 3.5 Ecoboost.
None of the other brands offer the payload and towing capacities of the 3.5 Ecoboost.

Rams and Tundras have the poorest payload capacities.

My F150 has a payload capacity over 1800lbs and towing capacity of over 11,000lbs, along with integrated brake and back-up camera.
Only feature it didn't have that I would've liked, was the HD Payload Package, but it's not available on the crew cab shortbed model.

That is the single most worthless measurement you're likely to encounter. What is the GVWR of your trailer? That's the operative weight, as you're going to be very near that weight. Also, what is ~12.5% of that GVWR? That's the amount of weight on your tongue/hitch.

Take those two weights and match that to a truck (some decent suggestions above). And, forget you ever heard/read about the dry weight of your trailer.

Good luck.

They will all do the job they're intended to do...Whatever your brand preference, you'll find the one to suit your needs. Look for higher gear ratios for best towing. 3:73, 4:10, higher...the better, but you lose in MPG., but you probably already know that.
And as other have said, look at payload capacity of whatever vehicle you look at.
