Water Tank Overflowing, Filling Wrong Way!!!

New Rockwood 2906ws. Pump is ShruFlo, model is 4008-101-A65. Parked at campground. Fresh water tank was 1/3 full. Hooked up to city water. In one day fresh water tank was overflowing. Called Rv repair. On phone. Was told the spring valve was not closing in pump and allowing water to feed through pump into fresh water tank. And I need new pump. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks

Try this:

Disconnect city water and open a sink faucet to relieve system pressure.
Turn on the water pump and let it run to shutoff; turn it off; bleed down pressure.
Repeat 3 times (no more - you don't want to overheat the pump).

Reattach city water and re-pressurize.

Hopefully whatever crud is stuck in the valve will be blown out.
Prevention is the cure here.

NEVER drain the hot water heater through the low point drains.
Always close the isolation valves and drain it through the water heater drain.

Bits of calcium and anode can become trapped in the pipes and be pushed into places you don't want (like faucet screens and valves - toilet and water pump) when city water pressure is added.

Dirt in fresh water (campground well water) can also do this.

They also make repair kits for the pump if you are handy.

Not sure what model you have but here is the kit for the Shurflo 2800 - https://www.solar-electric.com/94-23...FdaCswodgPME8Q

Usually simple fix
Shut off city water
Shut off water pump if on.
open faucet and allow to run until water stops.
turn on water pump
allow water to run through faucet for 30 seconds
close faucet
shut off water pump
turn on city water

Should be OK. Do not run the water pump when city water is connected as it can cause the back flow valve to seat improperly.

Pull pump and check to see if o-ring has come loose and wedged in the check valve. If you have a winterizing bypass valve, you can turn it 90 degrees and water can't go backwards through the pump and into the tank. Basically shutting off the suction side of the pump.

Just curious, other than the valve seating incorrectly, is their any other damage that can be done? We use both together fairly often to get higher pressure when the city water pressure is low. I have had the valve stuck slightly but doing what you and others mentioned has always fixed it.

Probably no real damage, but if city water pressure is that low shut it off and use the FW tank. The problem arises when you become complacent from doing it often and leave the RV with city water on and back flow valve not seated properly. You may return to a flooded campsite

I always use the city water connection along with the pump when showering. the Water pressure is often so low at some campsites that it is better when both are turned on. I always turn the water pump off after showering thus no damage to seats.
And I always turn off the main water valve each and every time we leave the camper for any length of time. This eliminates the chance of a line or hose rupture while we are away from RV.

At the International Rally there are many units on the manifold runs in the fields and if everyone is using the water concurrently pressure can vary.

Normally, this is not an issue, but we have been recommending that the fresh water tank be filled on arrival and the water pump turned on when showering.

Since the normal water pressure is high enough to never allow the pump to run (even when showering), there is no harm. However, should you be showering and there happens to be a notable pressure sag (has not happened that I am aware of - but could), having that pump come on can prevent a soapy surprise.

Remember that the water pressure being supplied must drop below the water pump "turn on" pressure in order for the pump to start and the pump will shut off as soon as the pump reaches its "turn off" pressure (which is below normal city water pressure).

Very wise thing to do. We should all be doing that.

I added a shutoff and a check valve in line after the pump. Didnot repair pump, figured pump would have continuing issues.
