Well hell yea. Anybody with even the room to build one of these, is probably the envy of most on this forum.

My poor brother has been keeping his at a storage facility @ $130/month. Been ripped of twice there. So moving to a friend's property for security. An almost 1 hour drive

Very fortunate to be able to just walk out the door & work on the trailer.

It would be much less expensive by keeping grass up to the cover, but wondered if it creats large ruts in ground by not having paved driveway? My somn bought the house and we are splitting the land with pool for my use and he is renting out the house. Splitting land by full legal transfer of property. Saving him money by not dealing with pool and allows me land for rv cover.
When I used to park my horse trailers in the yard (about 14k) I had a truckload of what's called "crush and run" (don't know the formal name) put down. As the ruts started to show where the trailer tires traveled I just raked the stuff in the center to fill the ruts. Within six months most of the gravel had disappeared and I was running the mower over it. Three years later I put another truckload down and it was also hidden under grass by the end of summer. No ruts at all now and plenty of traction if it rains.

base is 35' long with a 1' overhang of the cover material. So 36' of coverage.
24' wide. As you can see in the pic, that is wide enough to get both truck & trailer under cover. I can put slides out on non truck side anytime. If I move truck, all slides & awnings can be put out.
Legs are 12'. The angled supports connect to the legs at the 10' 4" height. So if ya gotta get right next to the wall, that's where you'll run out of height. Those supports angle inward and attach to the rafters at about 14' ( I have vertigo and just couldn't get to that point for an accurate measurement ). They seem to come in about 2' from the wall. The peak is 17'. But there are cross beam supports that are at 15' ( that will be the max height anything goes inside ). Not sure how wide the 15' height can be used, as the supports are angled and welded to the rafters at their ends. At those weld points, you lose 5" of height, and then of course, the slope of the roof begins to subtract from the height after that. Still, down the center, that 15' height is pretty wide.
East facing I just stayed with the 3' drop in the cover material. On the west side, I added two 3' panels for a total 9' drop of coverage.
There are different "levels" of structural strength. What they called "certified" was supposed to be the top level. That's what I ordered. That got 12ga steel over 14ga. All the legs and roof beams get braces & struts vs every 2nd or 3rd getting braced. You also get earth anchors. That's just some really big long spikes driven through the base rail into the ground. Not sure, but I got maybe 15 of those on each side. The contract I got said it would withstand winds to 130 MPH ( which I do NOT believe ), and 30 lbs/sq ft snow loading on the roof. Not an issue here in TX.
It took 3 workers about 8 hours to erect. With our 8.25% tax here the final cost was just under $4200. I ordered it through Mayberry Metal Structures. They in turn subbed it out of Waco TX. My contact at Mayberry was Larry Johnson. His email was larry.mayberrymetalstructures@gmail.com
Had to prep the site myself. Had to be within 4" of level front to back & side to side.
Had it just over a year, and still very happy with it.

End of thread hijack
Very Nice!

Like the Windjammer as well. I have the V-lite 30WIKSS

What'd you put down as a base? Or did you just scrape the ground flat?

Nice cover!

Because I have a circle drive I was able to build a greenhouse over my boat for the winter. But that blocks access to everything so a permanent structure elsewhere on the property is in order.

Nice cover!
Surface which was slopping grass was dug down a good 6" more or less in some areas Click image for larger version

Built up with soil and rock to level out. Was seriously packed down.

Then gravel put down on top of that which was packed down again. It's very solid base which was almost impossible for workers from Carolina carport to get the anchors into the ground. Click image for larger version

It's very dirty looking now but we will have more gravel dumped in the future. Can't do it now with the house being redone so it is what it is.

Man, that looks sturdy. Any issues with snow creeping in from the sides?

Love Idaho. But it's weather like in that pic that has DW saying "No."

Tuckerdog1 and Wolverine 1945, Thanks!
We haven't any plans at this stage to enclose, and only had snow creep on the far side about 10" up on the tires. It is a sidehill dug out, so on the far side is about 4' taller. I am working on getting it lowered before next winter.

That is a great looking carport! We have one just like it! But I'll tell you what I regret- not going down at least halfway with the panels on the side. I hung two large tarps on each end to block the sun, and we're getting ready to have another carport installed, so I'm going to add the extra panels on the side at the same time. I figured if the sun is touching anywhere at all it's not going to be good and defeats the purpose. I think ours was Carolina Carports also.

If all works out & we are able to have one built,,, we will need to close the back in maybe 3/4 of the way,,, the back will be facing West,,, the direction most storms hit us from !!!
The ground where we would put it has about 6" of crushed concrete on ground that sod & top soil had been removed !!!

Here's a suggestion that will cost about $50 or so and takes about an hour to complete . That gravel you put down is going to move and settle as you drive onto it which creates leveling problems.

You can easily pour two concrete pads that will assure you a level camper every time you pull in. Size and placement is your choice. I think mine are 24"x60" and poured so I park the camper close enough to the side to allow parking a vehicle on the other side.

Tried that but they settle down in the gravel and move around when not parked on them.
