Well we did it! 8289WS

Well we did it! Just picked out our first 5th wheel. We chose the Rockwood 8289 WS Diamond pkg. It should be here in a couple of weeks. We have spend a long time looking at different 5th wheel brands and floor plans, weights ect.. and finally settled on this one. We were also looking at a Cougar Xlite HC, and a Cougar HC, but when it came down to the quality that we were looking for and the items we wanted we found the majority of them in the Rockwood. I wish the Rockwood would have the all in one docking station for the water, cable, ect in the basement like the Cougars have, but that's something I can live with. Question for those that have this model. Does the bedroom slide give you any trouble since it is on the campfire side of the 5th wheel. It doesn't look like it should, but just wondering.

What kind of docking arrangement does your unit have?

My water and cable are behind one door while the power is in a small round port, power cable is hard wired to the trailer.

Gray and black tank valve handles are under the water hookup.

Welcome to the 8289WS.

No problems with ours, and don't quite understand your question regarding the bedroom slide.

I was just wondering if it gets in the way. I know it's high, but do you ever hit it with stuff.
The cougar's water inlets are inside the compartment and out of site.

I have the 8282 so my wardrobe is driver side, but I was thinking yours would make a nice shade or canopy from sun or rain while getting gear out of storage. Looks plenty high enough. Mine is too high to hit on opposite side.

Congrats on the 8289WS. We have had ours a few days over six weeks and just love it. Have put on about 2500 miles so far and spent 37 days / nights camping across 5 states, may take it out for a night or two next week. The wardrobe slide is not an issue on that side. Did you get the 50 amp with the second a/c unit?

jrlogan10.....I can relate to your excitement...we have the exact same unit on order..expecting to hear from the dealer in early March that they have received it...my only concern is the underbelly storage...going to have to be more creative in how we store things...the Puma 5th that we had before had more outside storage than the Rockwood.

presley01 - We the 5th wheel has 50amp service, but no 2nd ac. It's wired for it but we don't have it. Living in Michign and it can get hot, but we don't camp enough to justify it right now. Still putting bread on the table for a few more years.
With the weather we're having I don't think we'll get rid of the snow until July!!

Let us know when your camper is delivered. Look it over real good from the underside to the roof and front to back.

We went from a 40' Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler to the 828WS (Don't haul sound equipment any more).

I could not believe all the "stuff" that I'd put in that Toy Hauler over a five year period. When weight was no object, it was just throw it in. I mean everyone should travel with two crock pots, three gallons of window cleaner, enough tools to rebuild a CAT diesel, 150' of 50A power cord, etc.

We just laid it all out in the Ag Building, and selected what we "needed" to carry in the new RV. I haven't been across the scales yet, but I'm comfortable that we're within the CCC.

Presley01 - Will do. I saw somewhere on here a checklist for things to go over. I'll have to find it again. I found one for Hybreds that I might use. Wondering if there was one for 5th wheels.
Rodeo George - You carried alot of stuff...

good, but another question, as the Rockwood has these Torflex Rubber Suspension Axle: how does this work for you and have you a comparison to the usual springs?

I had leaf springs on my 08 Cougar 291RLS, our 8289WS has the Torflex suspension. The Torflex seems to give the RV a softer ride. Have never been inside either one while being towed, all I can say is how it felt on the truck and what I see in the mirror.
