2017 Rockwood Signature Ultralite 8299BS

We've had very few problems with our unit. We've towed it >12k miles and the worst that happened was at the end of our second season we had 2 tire blowouts within about 100 miles on our way TO a campground. We now have Endurance tires. I also found out that the furnace plenum door was OPEN! So our air flow was very low, of course. I had to discover that and fix it myself.
But the most significant problem we had was when we discovered that the bedroom did not have an egress window (as required by law). Forest River stepped up to the problem when we pointed it out and modified the trailer at the factory (we left it over a weekend) by replacing the front side forward window with a larger one. I noticed a couple of pictures of 2018 8299BS models with the same larger window that we now have in the bedroom, so apparently Rockwood did a rolling change to the model. I give them credit for owning up to - and correcting - their mistake at their own expense.

We shopped for a Rockwood 5th wheel but most did not have windows overlooking the door/camp site side.

They just came out with new floorplans that have lots of windows on the campground side. Check out the new 2893BS.

We special-ordered our 2016 Signature Ultra Lite 8244WS so we could get thermopane windows and a table and chairs instead of a dinette. We rarely need an air conditioner because we primarily use it in winter, spring, and fall in Colorado and the Southwest. So we needed to be able to stay warm, not cool.

We have towed it 36,000 miles so far, despite a significant number of problems. But most of our problems were with appliances and accessories, not the trailer's construction. And the major ones were repaired under our two-year extended warranty.

2018 8299BS checking in from Reno Nevada.
Upgraded 16 year old 26’ cougar and GMC truck in preparation of retiring in 2022 and having longer stays away from home. Decided to retire last April and have traveled into northern CA and up and down Oregon coast.
A few problems up front with water heater and breaks, but had no issues last year.

Thanks for that information. Funny , but just today we were given notice ours is ready for pick up at the dealer. We go pick it up next Thursday the 14th. I hope ours is built as well as yours.

We pick our 8298KS next week and it has 6 windows on the camp site side.
So not sure when you shopped for one , but they almost all have 4 or more windows on that side.

Are there just not that many of them or is it because they have way fewer issues ? I can look back and see they are on here and they do post , but not anywhere near the numbers TT owners do. Is there another section for Rockwood 5th wheel owners I'm missing ? Could it be unlike some other manufactures Rockwood sells more TT than 5th wheels? Just a curiosity question really.
I have a 2017 8280WS

Rockwood signature ultra-light in the UK

Lived full time for 2 years now. Minor issues, more frustrating than major issues, other than slide plastic edge tearing up, dealer CCRV replaced with aluminium.

Could do with more insulation (slides not insulated on floor) would consider something a bit more substantial but would need to get a bigger truck (American- not European)

We have a 2016 8280ws...totally happy with the fit and quality. Other than replacing the tires and a couple of o-rings in the bathroom faucet, we haven't had a moments trouble with our Rockwood. I think the quality of the Rockwood is higher than most other brands that I have looked at. and I think people seldom post just to say that are happy with their purchase.

Heat barely comes out of the living area vents. Bathroom and bedroom gets 90% of heat. Anyone know about anything I can change with duct work

We have a 2020 8299SB and love it! So far so good

I did get pretty frustrated with the sound system.....couldn’t get TV sound through the sound bar. I asked the question on the forum and soon had the answer!

I’m old school...... I would like to have an extensive manual full of useful information......
I guess in the grand scheme of things that’s not really a problem

You'll find this is a common issue and not only on Rockwood/Flagstaff models.

The factory DOES NOT take the time to properly support the flex ducting or route it in a manner where it doesn't get smashed/pinched/cut off so you'll likely need to drop the coroplast (plastic cardboard) underbelly and straighten things out. Be prepared for an eye opening experience once you open up the underbelly! It is a rats nest of wires, pipes and ducting!

Mine had issues where the ducting went from the furnace into the underbelly being twisted at more than a 90º angle and almost completely blocked.

Some members have posted they shoved sections of 3"-4" round, PVC thin wall drain pipe in their ducts to hold it rigid and open.

We put adjustable registers in the bath and bedroom to partially close off the flow when we are spending time in the living area. Just be careful not to block too much flow that the furnace overheats and trips the thermal cut-off.

Bought ours new. So far, so good. Some minor problems. Lots of windows all around the living area; that's why we chose this particular model/floorplan. And that little plug for solar by the door? That's where you plug in your solar panels that you have on the roof or on the ground. That charges your batteries.

5picker, I tried an adjustable register in the bathroom but its metal and it gets so hot you can't stand on it (its in the center of our small bathroom floor so its hard to avoid). I had to put the unadjustable factory-install plastic vent back on.

How did you remove the underbelly coroplast? I don't see any screws on ours.

We used a dampered plastic register in the bathroom too because of what you mentioned. The metal one did get hot! This is the one we used...
https://www.rvupgradestore.com/JR-Pr...-p/08-0208.htm

My underbelly has screws across the R/V in several locations into wooden cross braces from front to back. The sides were tucked up on the flange of the I-beam frame. Even so, they are a bear to get out. Many post they cut them into smaller sections.
