WindJammer 3006WK A/C, is one enough?

Hi All,
I am looking at a WindJammer 3006WK and was wondering how well a single A/C unit works. Does anyone have any experience with 100 degree temps and the single air conditioner?

We have a 35' V-Lite.
We upgraded the A/C to 1 15,000 BTU, when we ordered.
This summer was the hottest on record here.
We learned to turn on the A/C "EARLY", before the TT got hot.
If we stayed ahead of the heat it was fine.
If we waited til the trailer got hot it took a LONG time to get it cooled off.
On my next TT I would just order the second unit.

We have a 2016 Windwammer 3029W with a single 15,000 Btu A/C and it was more than enough for the several days of upper-ninety degree days we had in PA and VA this summer. We were never out in the wide open and always had partial shade, though.

You didn't say where you live or if you intend to camp in the southwest. I live in north Texas and have camped around the this state, NM, AZ, NV (106 that day)

, CA, and KS. I recommend you to put the second AC on or it just will not keep up once the outside temps reach 95 or more. If you live in the Pacific Northwest and plan on only camping in cooler climates, then one will do. Keep in mind the power will go to 50 amp, but you aren't paying by the Kw/hr anyway

and you can always turn one off if it isn't needed.

Oh, I have a 35' Windjammer and it has two AC units: one 13.5K and one 15K or we would have fried at the Texas coast and in Vegas.

I appreciate the replies, thank you. I live in California but plan on traveling all over the USA and staying in areas for up to a few months at a time and I am certain some of that time will be in the South and some of that time during summer.

So, haven written that, has anyone added a 2nd unit after the purchase and if so, is it working out OK? The reason I ask is I am looking at a used Windjammer that only has one A/C unit.

I can't speak to getting it done after purchase as ours had it when we bought it new. However, if I have the opportunity I would swap the 13.5K to the front location of the TT and move the 15K to the main location of the unit. Opposite of what they are when the factory adds the Diamond Package. It would make sense as the original location cools more square footage than the second unit, so put the bigger unit where it is needed most.

I think I saw a post here a day or two back that said the dealer quoted $1000 to install an A/C.

We have a 3029W Windjammer with two AC's and I'm glad we do. We're full timers and currently spending the summer in central Texas. One would not have done the job,,,,,so it all depends on where you'll be. We used to have a 29' Jayco TT with one AC and the poor thing never shut off in the summer.

No doubt, if you plan on going anywhere near Texas, you will need the second a/c unit. Best investment you will ever do.

We got the Diamond pkg with our 2015 3029 Windjammer and the 15000 a/c is in living room and 13,500 is in bedroom.

Another reason for having two AC units is if one goes out,

you are not done camping. We had the 13.5 K BTU go out in AZ this summer when we were just starting a 30 day trip. Without the second unit, we would have had to rent a hotel at night to sleep because it was right at 100 degrees during the day and not much cooler at night. As it was, the 15 K (in the bedroom) would cool the trailer at night and was okay with the help of a fan during the day; still got over 80 degrees but bearable and we were not there during the day much anyway. Still it ran almost constantly, until the 13.5 K was repaired.

Seeing you only have two slides one 15000 ac will work . I have 3 sides creating more cooling space and one needs the extra ac. Later RJD

You may want to go the route we did. We ordered our 2016 3029W with the option of a 50 Amp with 2nd A.C. prep. This provides 50 Amp service to the trailer and the bedroom vent is prept for a 2nd air conditioner. Then at a later date if you want the 2nd A.C. installed the wiring and reinforcement is already there. Just remove the vent- drop in the new A.C. and plug it in. Presto!!! BTW, the price for this option is only $290 MSRP.
Also you may want to consider the optional 2nd power roof vent in the kitchen/living area. Ours helps out quite a bit.

As long as you going that far with 2nd ac pre wire it will be cheaper to have factory install 2nd air than later. Later RJD

This is what I would have done if we had purchased new...

With our 2 slide TT, one 13.5 A/C is just-enough in 90 degree heat... We bought our TT used & it only came with 30A, so I plan to place the current 13.5 in the BR & add a new 15 in the center. I will then run a separate 20A line & breaker box for the BR A/C. This line will also power a separate 110V outlet in the kitchen & separate 110V outlet under the awning, so I can use (2) elect. grills for breakfast...

All of the above is a lot of work, so I would have gladly paid an extra $290 for 50A at the time of purchase...

BTW, I installed (2) MaxxAir Deluxe fans (w/remotes) in the (2) remaining skylights. These work great in push/pull fashion when the temps outside are cooler than inside. When we are in A/C weather, I set them to automatically turn-on if the temps rise above 85. They run on 12V & will keep the dog from roasting if the electric fails.

Since you're buying used, I would try it and see if it works. If it needs it you can add another AC and adding the cost of the second AC to the camper should still be less than buying a new one and taking the loss when you tow it off the lot.
