You may want to do some extra digging when shopping for it. I recently bought mine. For some reason, the kit that comes with the mounting kit, which I didn't need, was much cheaper than the one that comes without it. Yes, that sounds backwards but that's the way amazon had it listed.

I don't know what kind of trailer you have, but if the op's trailer is pre-wired, like mine is, the power comes from the pigtail that you plug into your truck from your trailer. There's no way it should come off your trailer battery. Otherwise is would always be hot, i.e. always on. Like others have said, it comes off the parking lights hot wire. I just wired mine up last weekend, and it works perfectly.
