Generator
Just got my first gen. Champion 2500 dual fuel inverter. Just asking if anyone use surge protection with gen. I have protection for shore power. I have 50 amp service. I have dog one that fits the trailer plug the the small end for normal extension cord. I have 12/3 extension cord. Just charge battery tv etc no ac. Just plug in and ?go

Honestly, it shouldn't be needed. I liked having it so that I felt better protected when I ran out of gas. I just didn't have any idea what would happen as it wound down.
If you use your EMS, it'll likely report an "open ground" unless you ground the generator or use an Edison plug on it. (On edit, see correction below- the Edison plug is the only option.)

Grounding the generator does not bond the neutral & ground conductors...you will still get an open ground error on the EMS if you don't use an Edison Plug

Pretty much all that happens is whatever you are running just stops running when the generator winds down. Years ago some generators had lousy schemes for regulating voltage output and the voltage could go up and down as the engine started to quit.
This doesn't happen with the Inverter generators as the "inverter" regulates output voltage far better due to how it's engine speeds and slows during normal operation.
I worry more about RV park voltage surges than from my generator.
