Surveyor Maiden Voyage !!

Hello Folks

I will be taking out my new 2014 Surveyor Sport (22ft) at the end of the month for it's maiden voyage...........

Since this is my first 4 day outing just was curious as to the steps you take once you park it at the site.

example: level it, unhook from vehicle, etc...........

I know this question is elementary and obvious for some, but I would like to create some kind of pre-flight and post operation check list until my mind is wrapped around a procedure.........

Thanks in Advance for any replies.....

When you get there and pulled in or backed in, level it side-to-side first. Then unhook from the truck, and level front-to-back. Then put the stabilizers down. Level with the wheels and tongue jack, the stabilizers are not levelers. I always use 1' square plywood under my stabilizers and tongue jack. Hook up the water, and make sure the water heater fills by pulling the pop-off valve until water comes out, and dry your hands... never turn on the water heater without water in it. Hook the power up to the trailer first, then to the breaker box... never roll up or unroll energized cords... Some folks don't hook up the sewer until it's needed. I go ahead if I'm in a space that has full hook-ups. However, I don't leave the valves open. I let the tanks fill and then dump all at once. There can be sewer fleas, and odors that can invade hour new home-away-from-home. After that, turn on the water heater, hook up the television, and any other stuff. Watch the weather with your awning. If the wind's much over 10 mph, my awning comes in. I never leave it out overnight. It's expensive if the wind rips it up. If you have speakers on the outside, make sure they are off if you're not out there. Be considerate of others in the campground... and most of all... ENJOY yourself!

When it's time to go... make sure everything inside is battened down, and do the start-up procedure above in reverse order. Remember to unplug the power from the breaker box first. Stomping around with wet hands on wet ground with a hot power cord can be deadly...

See you on the road... Welcome to the forums. Most of all... Enjoy your new rig!

Why not just open the faucets (hot and cold) inside your unit till all the air in your water lines is expelled and a solid stream of water is coming out. That will verify your water heater is full and all lines are pressurized. Can't see a reason for opening the pop off valve at the water heater. JMO.

X2 with what was already said (especially the chocks). Don't forget to turn the propane on. They did forget the most important step. Before you do anything...crack open a cold one and enjoy the view.
oh yeah, and

I do that for my own peace of mind... Brother-in-law burned up his water heater and cracked the tank once, long ago...

And yeah... those chock things, they're important...

X2 on the chocks...

Absolutely do not forget to do this...the most important safety issue when setting up! After you level the TT side to side and BEFORE you unhitch from the tow vehicle GET YOUR CHOCKS IN. Many of us use the BAL X-Chocks and I can whole heartedly recommend them...they really make a big difference.
