ugh, what do you think this is from?

Found pieces of wood in the camper after putting the slide out, looked underneath and this is what we found, what do you think its from and how would we fix it? Its the bottom of the slide.

Can you tell us the make, model and year of your trailer? Is this the first time you have extended and retracted the slide?

its a used 2012 surveyor select sv-303, just purchased it used, about 3 weeks ago from a dealer and just noticed it this past weekend.

After weekend use on a permanent site, we retracted the slide before going home each weekend.

Possibly water damage causing the particle board to delaminate and peel.It looks like the edge may have been scraped lose during opening and closing aand allowed water to seep into the particle board. Check to see if the slide is hitting the frame when operated. I would try removing any loose pieces of the black covering then seal the entire surface with a good two part marine epoxy paint. I am sure you will get other suggestions.

Ok, so this is the big slide. It is obviously binding on the left side.
First, do you see anything if you pull the slide seal back that might be catching on the bottom of the slide?
We might need to adjust the slide up on that side. First.. check for something behind that seal.
FYI..you can leave your slides out all season while on a permanent site.

True on the wear pattern, should have marks front to back... Does it look like he is missing a seal on the bottom of the slide?

If you have had this for 3 weeks, I believe I would have talk with the dealer.
It may well be that the problem you have is the reason it was on the lot in the first place. Did they provide any warranty?

We sent the dealer an email this morning but he has not replied and we are going to call him on the way home from work today. Very reputable dealer so we are hoping it will work out.

Just a WAG but if it is a "above floor unit by Lippert" your Wear/Bearing blocks may need replaced? Lift up your carpet flap and look for 2 or 3 white nylon looking blocks about 6 to 8" long! Youroo!!

Looks like water got in; but could be like previous comment poor alignment, that is the jack bolt may need to be adjusted. Even though you didn't notice this when you picked it up, the dealer should offer some assistance (you always can blog on a dealer too).

Should be some kind of warranty to cover it. Here's hoping.

This is a logical theory. The clearance is gone and it's dragging on one side. The other side is probably not far behind.

It is a little hard to tell from the picture but it looks to me like most of the bottom seal is missing on this camper. You can see a portion of the torn remaining seal to the left of the picture. I agree with what others have said, looks like the slide is running to low and may need to be raised on the left side. I would make sure that the dealer fixes this now, the repair here may be several thousand dollars if the slide has to be removed and the floor repaired.

Finally got this one figured out per dealer suggestion. The camper was way off level causing the bottom of the slide to scrape. Re-leveled the camper(added another board underneath one set of tires) and sealed the exposed wood with par15 sealer and all is well.

Thanks for the follow up.
So, just so we are all on the same page.....you never leveled the trailer before you put the slides out? How far and what direction was it out of level to cause that type of damage? Way nose high leaning towards the slide? Was the extra board to level an 8" × 8"?
I think the dealer dodged a bullet on this one.

Just to give a quick summary, this was our first camper so the dealer delivered it and set it up. When they did the initial setup it was out of level on the slide side, by about 1 inch. Of course since this was our first camper so we didnt realize it was out that much until after we purchased a 3 foot level and checked ourselves.

What i think happened was when they first leveled the camper it was fairly close to level and after a week or two it just settled on the site and the camper being un-level became more apparent. We added another 2x8 under the tires on the slide side and as of now it was perfectly level.

Live and learn i guess, always check someone elses work .
