Generator wiring

I just bought a 2020 Wolf Pack 325 pack 13 with the generator prep package. I also bought a used Onan 7000. My question is where do I connect the L1, L2 and Neutral wires at on the generator? Thank you.

I think you have to install a 30 amp or 50 amp plug (which ever the generator plug is rated for).
That's the only way I know to do it

Do you know where on the generator to do that? There are no outlets. The only thing I see are 2 poles on the backside of the breaker, one is labeled “Load” which I would think is the camper. I’m thinking L1 goes to one pole and the L2 or neutral to the other but that leaves 1 wire.

Congratulations on your purchase!!!

As this is a brand new purchase, I'm confused/surprised why your dealer wouldn't provide the installation for you? I would feel like any tampering/installation you do on your own, would result in the vendor having an excuse to void warranty, not to mention your safety when dealing with electricity

The OP mentioned they bought the R/V new but purchased a USED Onan GenSet to install in it.

Here's a link to a Onan 7000 GenSet Installation Manual

Whether this applies to YOUR particular model... I can not say.

See page #43 for wiring schematics.
You'll also see they are typically wired with an ATS. (automatic transfer switch)
One schematic is for wiring to a 50a 240v R/V. (top schematic)
The other is for a 30a 120v R/V. (bottom schematic)

You don't HAVE to have an ATS. You could simply wire the appropriate receptacle to your GenSet and plug your R/V into it when needing generator power.

first, is the Generator a 240v output model?
240v is TWO hot legs(RED, BLACK), and a NEUTRAL(white)

It sounds like your RV is a 240v 50amp model? (A double-pole 50amp MAIN BREAKER in your panel)

Most 240v 50amp RVs that have Generators, even larger diesel coaches, like mine, DON'T have a 240v Generator, it's simple a 120v output that is shared between the RV's two 50amp double-pole breakers. If it's a 7000Onan, chances are it is producing about 55 amps, and that is shared between the two main breakers, and thus to the two 'sides' of the power needs within the RV, for example one line to the front a/c unit, and the other line to the rear a/c unit.

Unlike 100amp 'RV' 240v service(which we all refer to as '50amp' service), the generator's own breakers will determine the 'max' for each side of power, typically 30amps each, though the total output of the generator won't be over 55amps regardless.
When the GENERATOR is producing 120volt power, it simply provides that thru two breakers on the generator, and back to your two Main Breakers in your Panel. If it is capable of producing up to 55 or more amps, either 'side' of your breaker panel can use up to 50amps of that power, but typically you will be using some on both sides, since your panel is designed that way.

As for 'where' the wires connect, you'll have to answer the first two questions first.

The generator is 120 v but only has 1-30 amp breaker. The RV has a transfer switch.

Is it possible the wires from the transfer switch labeled L1 and L2 go to the back of the 30 amp breaker and the neutral wire goes to ground post on generator?

A 50a R/V pedestal IS 240v.
It is wired EXACTLY THE SAME as any 50a 240v home outlet and provides 240v at the pedestal outlet.

240v DOES go inside the R/V.

And as you mentioned... it is the R/V's power distribution box that keeps the legs separate inside the rv and only provides 120v to the circuits on each leg.

If you measure across both of those legs INSIDE the R/V you WILL see 240v.

It is never the 50a outlets that get wired incorrectly.
It IS the 30a 120v outlets that often mistakenly get wired for 240v.

certainly don't want to add to what is already confusing for a lot of folks, so ill delete my post. Yes, you are correct about the incorrectly wired 30 amp receptacles. I wasn't clear.

What does "prep package" on the OP's unit mean. The Onan 7000 is a 50A unit is the unit circuit breaker panel set up to accommodate a 50A unit utilizing both genny outputs (2 busses)? Is the unit wiring 50A capable? Is it prepped for a 30A genny? Never seen an Onan 7000 genny with only 1 30A circuit breaker (should have 2, 1 for each genny output leg) as the OP says. Seems to be a lot of unknowns.

The prep package i was told is the automatic transfer switch. It’s a Wolfpack 325 pack 13. The RV is 50 amp capable. I find it strange too but this genset only has 1-30 amp breaker.

what model generator do you have? i did an online search and if i understand what i saw there are generators rated at 7000 watts configured as single phase generators at either 60 amps @120 volts or 30 amps @ 240 volts. do you by chance have a 30 amp 240 volt model? get the model number of your generator and confirm what you have.
