Table

We are getting ready to full time in our 26rr next year and are looking on ways to save space. Have any of you done something to the table to make it less heavy and more storable? Maybe something like this:

I took out the back table and benches and installed a couple of small recliners with a portable table. I love it, the table was a beast for sure. Plus when we are traveling the bike goes in and the chairs fit perfectly in front of the bay window.

That table was a HORRIBLE design! Everytime I put it up or took it down I had to work at it like I never did it before. The idea was to use the stand as support for the bed it looks like. I took the stand off and took the fold up legs from another table and mounted them on. Now it does not take up nearly as much room, and it is way lighter. You will have to beef up the cleats on the front of the benches to make the bed. I just ran several 3" wood screws in and that has held up quite well.

You could always saw down two pieces of plywood to span the space. Saw in handles into each section and it will make it easier to store. We just have TV trays to eat off of and a small card table if we need to play board games inside.

Depending on what type of table you have...

mxdad ~ sorry, I can't think of the link right now and maybe someone else will chime in, there is a place on-line where you can order just about any type of table legs you can imagine. If you need to keep the table top due to needeed bed area, measure width & height needed and order folding legs.

Here are the folding table legs that many RV's use:

27 5 034 Folding Table Leg Black Color RV camper Trailer Heng 039 s HG FL275 BK | eBay

I think they come in 29.5" size also. I seriously thought about them after my table suffered a broken weld, see here:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...re-107776.html

Now that I've repaired it and lubricated the pivot points, it's a LOT easier to set up and drop down.

Note that if it's working correctly, the leg mechanism does NOT support the table top in the down position; the legs should be a couple inches off the floor when folded up. So while additional screws in the cleats sure won't hurt, they shouldn't be necessary for any leg system you install, unless they were inadequate to begin with.

If you go with the round tubular table support, make sure your floor is adequate to support it; many light weight trailer's floors are only 1/8" luan on top of foam. Also, if your dinette is in a slideout, make sure that any screws you use to attach the table leg base to the floor aren't so long that they stick out the bottom of the floor and might scratch the main floor when you pull in the slide. Lots of threads on this issue.

Thanks for all the replies...rockfordroo, your comment about the floor got me thinking....I'm pretty sure there is wood under the laminate (when I added another anchor, I got wood particles on the drillbit). I did find this on amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Products-013-.../dp/B002N5YF5Q

I'm not too jazzed on drilling almost 2" holes in the floor, so maybe 4 of these will work better. I'd like to deep-six the table altogether, but since we homeschool the kids, we kids need it.....

Mine is at home. I use a Walmart table which folds and fits under the main bed for travelling. I don't need the table as a bed. The Walmart one is almost the size of the original but weighs far less and is easier to store.

Took off the dreaded folding contraption on mine and put a pair of folding legs. Saves so much space cause they fold flat and the table with these new legs is actually a lot lighter and easier to move and store. Also much sturdier than original. Paid around $20 for them at my local Menards but I think Amazon also sells them. Click image for larger version

I'm using this $20 Walmart table.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays...Black/55122716

I was sick of not having the room to get around he table and feeling trapped when I was in the back. we rearranged the benches and the small table fit perfect. When not in use it fills the gap to the counter as you can see in the picture on the right. when folded it stores right under the "counter extension". Don't mind the sleeping kid.

Thanks to those who have posted ideas and mods. I have used most of them!!

These would not work as well on a U-dinette where people sit at the "ends" of the table. Should be great on a standard dinette.
