2016 Ford V10 Oil Change Caution
Just had the second Ford dealer change my oil, filter, etc. with the incorrect oil weight. My previous Class C with the same engine required 5W20, while my new Sunseeker (3010DS) with the same engine requires 5W30. It seems that both parts/service had made the same mistake. The first time it happened, I had even made a point to the service writer that it required 5W30, and they still installed it. Naturally, they had to replace oil and filter. This Sunseeker is a true 2016 model with the 6 speed transmission.
I don't know what the requirements are for 2017 and later, but I would recommend that you check this if you haven't already.
I also don't know if this would apply to the Class A chassis.
Again, just a word of caution. If two different dealers can make the same mistake, I really doubt they are alone.

I wonder why the change. There has been no change to the engine from what I understand. My 2016/2015 chassis calls for 5w20

I don't know why the change, unless Ford was finding a problem with wear that was linked to hot weather. Also, perhaps the change to the 6 speed transmission prompted the weight change. It's a mystery (and an even deeper mystery to the Ford ).

Amazing that they have to unscrew a cap with bright yellow lettering that indicates the oil to use. Yet they still mess it up...

My local dealer apologised profusely and offered to send someone out to pick it up. I'm there now while they change everything. This dealer has published change to their local shop procedures. This leads me to believe it applies to all 2016 of chassis and later. Dealer called Ford on this to verify. Your right about the oil cap but habit dominate sometimes.

I guess you just have to check your own oil cap and owners manual. Mine both designate 5W30. My dealer called Ford direct and found my VIN was one of the earliest produced after the change to 5W30. Anyway. ... My original caution was to check your individual vehicle.
If I had not been checking it before leaving for the Goshen RALLY, I might not have noticed the discrepancy.

Also remember that the RV's listed year may not be the engine's actual year. It can be say a 2016 engine on a 2017 RV.

Your owners manual doesn’t option for 5w20?
I pulled up the online manual for 2016 and it has the optional oil at 5w20.

Kenny, my manual does not list any option except 5W30 synthetic. The recommended is 5W30 Ford blended synthetic. It also lists the same for Canada.

Weird the online manual vs the print differs.

Are you sure your manual spells out "synthetic" oil?

Only as an option, not the recommended oil. The recommended oil is the Ford synthetic blend. Both are 5W30 weight.

I'd go to synthetic if it weren't for the huge price increase of an oil change and the fact once you go full synthetic you can't go back.

Our 2014 Sun Seeker with the V-10 is more than likely a 2013 engine. A very reliable service center her in Kelowna, KP Tire Craft installed 5 - 20 semi synthetic.
as that is what it calls for. Seems most engines are now using lighter oils.

I had originally purchased a 5 qt jug of mobile 1 extended performance 10w30 online and 2 qts at walmart not realizing it should have been 5w20. Today i decided to take the 5 gt jug and 2 qt bottles to walmart and replace it with 5W20, again 5 qt jug and 2qt bottles and they didn't question the return and replacement whatsoever. I'm now ready to do a self oil/filter change at a cost of $50 - not much higher than I was paying for a change for my expedition at a local repair etc store. I refuse to pay someone $100 for a simple oil and filter change! I'm not sure i could get my torso underneath my rig so I'm going to repurchase some ramps i had when i did all my changes for years. I just might consider going the mobile 1 route for my expedition and Sierra pickup. Doing changes every 15000 miles is an attractive alternative to doing semi synthetic changes every 7000 miles. That and I won't have to plead with the garage not to show a 3 month/3,000 mile interval sticker on my windshield. and not resetting my next oil change mileage.
