5star tune

Just ordered last night. Got the 87 and 89 perf/tow tune. Looking forward to driving it this year. It will be nice to get rid of the poor Ford tuning. There drive by wire is far to intrusive.

Better to have a bad day of camping than a good day at work!

Please post a follow up after install and some driving. I’ve been eyeing that for a while.

Ok. Finished up the first trip with the new tune. First thing I noticed is the MH feels lighter, it accelerates much, much better! The shifting is far improved. On the highway it passes far better than it did before. And I’m not speed limited to 75. Factory is 75, 5 star sets it at 77, but the user can change it to what they want all the way up to 125 or turn it off completely. So I did the responsible thing and set it to 125. It’s nice to pass a semi and not hit a brick wall at 75. I rarely do that but had to try it out. Gas mileage was great on the trip there. It was warm and not very windy. On the way home it was the complete opposite, cold, rainy, and very, very windy (head wind). So that threw off my mileage comparison. I ended up with 5.7 which is about what I was getting in mid summer running the generator. So I’ll have to wait on the mileage comparison for a later date. But quick and dirty math on the trip there showed 7 mpg. I arrived with exactly 3/4 tank. So If I used 19 gallons in 120 miles then that would give me 7 mpg. So even if I was off a few gallons that’s still 6.5.

All in all the MH is much more enjoyable to drive. Looking forward to a longer trip to get a better feel.

Ok finished our Memorial Day trip to west central WI. The tuner is great. It was very windy. The tune kept the Trans in OD most of the time except for a major headwind. Stock it used to drop to 3rd sometimes. Fuel mileage was the same as stock with the wind and cold weather. He return trip was complete opposite. No wind, and warmer. I averaged 6mpg at 68 mph towing our Explorer and 2 bikes. It held OD 95% of the time. Not at all like it was last year. Basically I gained about .7-.8mpg. I’ll update again when I head out east for the 4th of July.
