Boogie lights for your motorhome

I bout an Under glow Kit from Boogie Lights awhile ago and finally got around to installing them. Took some time to plan it out and figure our where I was going to run the wires and where I was going to mount the controller. I have a bunch of pictures of the installation and will post later when I get the pictures up loaded.

First Step is to find a spot to mount the lights, but don't mount them until you know where your wires are going to go.

Second step is to locate the spot for the controller. You will want to buy a small junction box to terminate all of the wires in near the controller.

Third Step is to figure how you get Power from your house batteries back to the location that you are going to mount your controller. That was a challenge on our Berkshire since I didn't want to run wires across the underside of the Motorhome and I didn't want to crawl under it.

Then the steps go on and on as you will see as you read along. I purchased the multi-color under glow kit with (3) 16" LED Strips and the Blue Tooth Controller along with a bunch of other items to complete the project. Since I am mounting the LED Strips under our Motorhome, I elected to also purchase the aluminum channels and the plastic diffuser cover.

Here is the first picture showing the existing steel channel that runs from the steer axle to the drive axle on the drivers side. Perfect spot to mount the aluminum channel and the other side has the same thing

When you stick the LED Strip on, make sure you use these. They tell you that at least six times in the instructions so now you have been told for the first time should you decide to proceed and buy some Boogie Lights.

Drivers side LED strip mounted. Make sure you don't put any stress on the connection to the wire. They tell you that about four times. You will notice the wire is on the rear of the run. That existing rail runs right to the end of my wet bay and the wet bay gives me a clear shot to the passenger side of the motorhome. Since we usually hang out on the passenger side of the motorhome (unless I am emptying the tanks while our neighbors are eating breakfast) I wanted the controller for the lights to be on the passenger side. The wet bay houses all of the tanks and it was easy to fish the wires up into the wet bay and then across to the other side.

It got dark the first day so I went inside and wired up the controller to a junction box with a switch on it. All of the wires from the LED Strips and Power will terminate in this box.

Ive got 2 sets on my MH. One is along the underside of the awning rail. The other is under the MH. I attached it similarly with a PVC channel. I didn't use the channel with the clear cover. But I did zip tie it after I stuck it to the channel. The box is inside the right storage compartment where my fridge and TV is at.

We've been using Boogie Lights for 5 years. The Grandkids love them.

Please, please, please....if you are camping near me don't use those boogie lights. I go camping to get away from light pollution. I have had the misfortune to camp near RV's with bright undercarriage lights that are left on all night long. Full disclosure: I am also an amateur astronomer.

I am not even done with detailing my installation and already reply number 3 is about light pollution. This is about installing boogie lights, not if you like them or hate them. I would like this thread to remain open for a while please. At least until I finish uploading my installation details and pictures.

Hey Wanderer. Where did you connect your power to? We have the same motorhome. Just curious where you made the connection.

I had the lights installed last year at Total Value RV, while getting some warranty work done. They put the control box and got power in the compartment below the driver's seat where the generator handle is.

Thanks, here are some more details. I ran the power wire from the battery compartment which is behind the rear wheels. There is a channel in the fender body and I ran the wire through it, forward to the wet bay. The power wire and the wight wires from the drivers side meet in the wet bay, shown here and then run over to the other side of the Motorhome.

Once I pulled the wires over to the passenger side, I drilled a hole in the wall between the wet bay and the storage bay. I mounted the controller and junction box in the storage bay

That looks like a professional install. I have lights between the tires on both sides and across the front and back. This provides enough light to walk around the campsite without tripping on tree roots. I have a bad leg that barely bends that is prone to tripping me, if I'm not careful. The lights help a lot in avoiding falls.

At one campground in southern Arizona the camp host suggested illuminating the underside of RV's to discourage wire chewing rodents, (pack rats). Quite a few had light rope around or under their rigs. We had never heard of this and didn't have any light rope but the RVs either side of did, so we hoped that would suffice. We didn't have any problems.

I've heard about those rats out west and that lights help keep them away. Hopefully, I'll never have to deal with them.

I finished up the wiring this morning. Just had to terminate the power lead in the house battery bay. I mounted a 10 A fuse on the wall and made the final connection.

While out doing the Census I noticed several homes in my neck of Arizona that had scare lights hooked up in and around vehicles, on porches, way up in trees, and even some kept music playing 24/7.
