New is the new used.

I'm new to the forum and posting this to hopefully save people in the same situation as us a little time. We've been looking for a medium sized Class C for the past 3 months. We are not in a huge hurry as we don't really need it until next summer. I also hate to spend the better part of $100K and not get what we are after. We looked at dozens of used examples. Every one was at least a little beat up, from both private and dealers. They were all way overpriced. I hate to buy something that 6 months from now will be worth half of what I paid for it. Many were selling for $10K more than a new one. While I know there will be some growing pains and issues with a new unit we finally decided on a brand new Forester 2551dsle from Motor Home Specialists in Alvaredo, TX. They gave me 20% of MSRP which I can live with and it should be here in March. This plan works for us and I personally expect that as we get back towards normal and fuel prices rise which seems inevitable, Motor home prices will drop. I just couldn't bring myself to buy used at a way inflated price just to have it now.

Similar experience here. We looked for a used MH for a year and a half that was decent and had what we were looking for. One showed up on line that was located at MHSRV in Alvarado in Sep. 2018. We went to look at it but it had sold by the time we got there. There were signs all over about the liquidation sale to make room for the 2019 models, so we decided to look at the old 2018 units still on the lot. Long story short, we ended up purchasing a new/old 2018 model at a significantly reduced price, because management wanted it off the lot by the time the 2019 models started arriving.

I've only spoken to the salesman on the phone as we're 4 hours away. He was pretty knowledgeable compared to most that I've talked to. He helped me settle on a model that they already had on order and gave me a very fair price. Hopefully it will stay at that price. We are cash buyers so an increase of $6K is a lot and I would likely go another route. This is a want not a need.
