New MH Almost Overweight As Delivered

So totally typical of manufacturers, and absolutely silly.
Just got this months MotorHome magazine, today. They did a test of a new Fleetwood Jamboree 30D class c.
Gave it "glowing reviews", XCEPT, when they they filled fresh water tank, and filled propane tank and weighed it, found it was 60 lbs over weight on the rear axle. AND, that was without any personal belongings or supplies.
Can just imagine loading it up with clothing, supplies, "stuff", and 3 or 4 people, pets, chairs, bikes, ect.
Has to be one of the most stupid and irrisponsible designs/layouts.

"Stupid, irresponsible" maybe, but probably pretty normal for any C on a 450 chassis 30' or over.

Oh, I agree, most of the larger 30 footers are probably close to the weight rating.
It was just funny, in a sad sort of way, that when they weighed the rig at a certified scale, with just water and propane, it was over the weight rating of the axle.
And they still gave the rig a "" with the only negative being the inability to carry anything.
I'm lucky...our Lexi has almost a 1900 lb load capacity ( it's been weighed).
Wouldn't even look at, much less buy a rig that I couldn't load up with the day to day necessities without overloading it.

I read the article and was really hoping it was a pre-production model.

Mmmm believe it or not we had similar issues with the Berkshire Type A - they put the wrong axels on the Berk and did not account for the heavy tile floors.

Unlike Fleetwood, Berkshire owned up to the problem and replaced the axels on all the affected units (Typical class act by Forest River )

Unfortunately nothing new. We had a 1985 Ford Conversion van. Max. gross weight was 6200 lbs., empty weight on the scales 6100 lbs with no one in it. I didn't weight just 100 lbs back then either

I would not take delivery on a MH with the stated problem.

Our rig has a 40 gallon fresh water tank. I fill it until the empty light goes out when starting a trip--enough to flush a few times, wash hands. Still that's about 13.3 gallons, so there's 110 pounds of water. When I get to the destination, then I filler 'er up and if I'm overweight, I'm going 6 blocks or less--I'll take that risk, with another 220 pounds of water. And I don't ever leave a campsite without dumping the gray and black water tanks. PIA--all for lack of a little extra ccc.

I'm sympathetic--our MH is too weight limited. In a couple of years it may have to be traded in--I'll be quite the wiser purchasing when the time comes--seems a lack of carrying capacity is no stranger in the A, B, C's of MH's.

Yes, I would tend to agree. The 3050/ 3051's have very limited carrying capacity due to the heavy slide. Has anyone actually weighed one fully loaded ready to travel? I saw a 31 foot Coachman at the Tampa RV show with 2 slides, fireplace and washer/ dryer. How could that rig not be overweight when loaded with people and gear?

Building a motorhome without meaningful legal CCC is unethical. They print beaches and pleasure and enjoyment all over the brochure. They deliver something that can NOT legally be used as advertised. (Most of the large C's that is. Our A has a reasonable CCC)

Our previous unit, a large fiver toy hauler, had a sticker in the garage that said not to exceed 3000 pounds. The CCC was just under 2000. For EVERYTHING.

Misleading at best. People bought them to put their motor cycles or ATV's in......

Meanwhile back to the water carrying. Yes, if you're boon docking you have to carry a lot of water. I don't so I can save pounds by not filling up. I put a known quantity in there.... Use one of these:
