No excuse for this shoddy workmanship

People have been welding for years, but why would you hire a pro welder to work for you that welds like this?
3 weeks left on trip and now I have to block one side of step than unplug the motor to prevent damage every time I move.

This one's going to cost me as I am 45 days out of warranty. But what sucks is it's not a true failure it's shoddy workmanship that failed.

It don't even look like they cleaned it before welding.

The welding may be work that MORryde does when they prep the chassis.

On mine they welded on vertical pieces of angle iron as bracing for the rear mud flaps and the flap behind the propane tank. Two of the three angle iron braces broke off due to bad welds. I poked around at dealers on new units and several of them had these braces already broken off before the units were even sold.

From what I heard the trailer business (all kinds of trailers not just TT) don't pay their welders good at all. Heck they probably are not even professionals. They have a high turn over rate so even if they'd get a decent welder the moment a better job offer comes up they are gone. Can't say I blame them.

Wonder if a garage bolt down from the top would work?

Call FR directly. They replaced my rubber roof 1 year out of warranty because it wasn’t glued properly. All they can do is say no.

they don't clean the steel and don't care how it looks, probably just stick a MIG up close and pull the trigger. Doing decent and strong welds with a wire feed MIG is easy with a minor amount of practice. They just don't give a crap.

Is this on the chassis? It should have a longer warranty than the 1 year FR warranty.

I’m particular about my welding. I have been welding for 20 plus years and still learn a little here and there. An hour using a Mig doesn’t give anyone the knowledge and experience to weld on a chassis. Welding upside down on your back is a lot different than welding on a plate laying on a table. Prep and fit up is 90 percent of the battle. A good hot weld with the toes filled in and travel speed as such to prevent to much of a haz zone that effects parent material....... I hate seeing crappy welds.

Non Pro Welder

Ahh, I doubt production has changed much over the years, I welded fast curing tobacco barn frames as a 16 yo with a tech school welding class education. I really dont think that I knew what a good weld was. At $6.75 an hour, I was riding high, got red eye and went home each night black from soot. I imagine there were farmer's out there that wondered who the heck welded this frame. In the ship building industry, welders are certified and tested. Doubt FR certifies their welders and where is QA?

sloppy indeed

Looks to me that the edge of the piece was cut with a blowtorch from the ragged edge, and it looks like it was never actually welded to the steel behind it.

Its just 1"x1" angle iron. Weld on other side is just as ugly.

I Bought a 2014 Rockwood U.L 2608ws from C.W ..
with a extended Warranty

WELL HALF WAY Through the summer i noticed.
the front wall must have broke the welds in the wall because with the slide out it pushes the wall out 3/8" of a inch ..
on the bottoms of the slide the track that slides was broken and started to rot the bottom of slide....
AND THE HIT'S KEEP COMING...
the roof leaked... &
we found that the bed room platform was dry rotten from the city water leaking and theres a rat's nest & black mold .
my wife has a Cpap witch sits right on top of the shelf above this mess...
AND ,AND The TV & DVD player has never played color now it dosent work at all ..
SO i dropped off the TT @ C.W of kingston ny and now there telling me i will be lucky if the extended warranty will cover the TV & DVD ...never mind the wall ???
so i sit and weight
i realize its a used camper but why sell me a warranty if it docent cover any thing...

Geez, I do better jobs than that using flux core, and what I weld is just temp stuff for my tractor.
